Racing Incident Report

KING’S FOLKS began very awkwardly, got its head up and lost a considerable amount of ground. Before being allowed to race again, KING’S FOLKS will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test.
KYNAM and MIGHTY EQUUS bumped shortly after the start.
Passing the 1100 Metres, MR VANILLA and ISLAND GARDEN were crowded for room inside KYNAM which was taken in marginally by MARK TWO.
J Moreira (KYNAM) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that approaching the 900 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of ISLAND GARDEN, causing that horse to be checked and to lose the running to which it was rightfully entitled. LYRIC ACE, which was following ISLAND GARDEN, got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of that horse in consequence. In the circumstances, the Stewards were of the opinion that the appropriate penalty was for J Moreira’s licence to ride in races to be suspended for a period to expire on Thursday, 15 May 2014 on which day he may resume race riding (3 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin racemeeting on Sunday, 4 May 2014. In addition, J Moreira was fined $60,000 in lieu of a suspension for a period incorporating 1 further raceday.
After the 900 Metres, FAY DEEP was left racing wide and without cover.
Passing the 700 Metres, ALL TIMES LUCKY was awkwardly placed close to the heels of LUCKY WARRIOR.
Near the 600 Metres, ALL TIMES LUCKY shifted out and bumped FAY DEEP.
Rounding the Home Turn, ALL TIMES LUCKY was checked when crowded for room between FAY DEEP and LUCKY WARRIOR which, after shifting to the outside of MARK TWO, was taken out further by that horse which got its head on the side and made the turn awkwardly. ISLAND GARDEN, which was following ALL TIMES LUCKY, was checked away from the heels of that horse in consequence and shifted out. LYRIC ACE, which was racing outside ISLAND GARDEN, got its head on the side and shifted out further away from that horse, resulting in KING’S FOLKS being awkwardly placed close to the heels of LYRIC ACE. In this incident, FAY DEEP became unbalanced after being bumped on the hindquarters by ALL TIMES LUCKY.
Also rounding the Home Turn, CIRCUIT FORTUNE was awkwardly placed close to the heels of KYNAM.
Passing the 100 Metres, CIRCUIT FORTUNE was steadied after attempting to obtain tight running between LORD DRAGON and FAY DEEP which shifted out slightly.
Over the concluding stages, FAY DEEP raced in restricted room between LORD DRAGON and SILVER DRAGON. Because of this, FAY DEEP was not ridden out to the end of the race as it normally would be.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of KYNAM, J Moreira stated that he was able to obtain a position in about midfield with cover and that he was happy with the way in which the horse travelled in the early and middle stages. He said at its last start when successful, KYNAM showed a good turn of foot when asked in the early part of the Straight, however, KYNAM today did not quicken when placed under pressure. He said he continued to test KYNAM in the Straight, however, the horse was disappointing in the manner in which it failed to finish off the race. A veterinary inspection of KYNAM immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

A veterinary inspection of ISLAND GARDEN immediately following the race revealed the horse to be lame in its right front leg and an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, ISLAND GARDEN will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
After the race, it was noted that LUCKY WARRIOR had shifted its left front plate and was found to be lame in that leg. Before being allowed to race again, LUCKY WARRIOR will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
Also after the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on FAY DEEP at the request of Trainer P O’Sullivan. The Veterinary Surgeon said this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, FAY DEEP will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
ISLAND GARDEN, LUCKY WARRIOR and MIGHTY EQUUS were sent for sampling.
