Racing Incident Report

To prevent an unreasonable delay to the start of the race, THETA HEDGE was withdrawn by order of the Stewards when it was unable to be loaded into the barriers. Having regard to THETA HEDGE’s behaviour when attempting to be loaded into the barriers, the Stewards ruled that prior to being permitted to race again, the horse must undergo a series of consecutive barrier trials.
SHADOW RUNNER began awkwardly.
TORONADO PHANTOM (J Moreira) shifted in abruptly at the start and bumped CALL ME LU which became unbalanced when awkwardly placed inside the heels of TORONADO PHANTOM. After this, TORONADO PHANTOM was ridden along, however, when left racing very wide after the 1100 Metres was steadied to obtain cover towards the rear of the field. When being steadied, TORONADO PHANTOM travelled keenly approaching the 1000 Metres. After the race, J Moreira confirmed that it was intended for TORONADO PHANTOM to be ridden in about a midfield position, however, due to the circumstances of the race the horse was required to race further back in the field than had been anticipated to obtain cover.
BINGO BINGO shifted out at the start and was awkwardly placed inside the heels of WHISKEY NEAT which then shifted in, resulting in BINGO BINGO shifting in away from the heels of WHISKEY NEAT and bumping the hindquarters of MASTER AQUA. MASTER AQUA was then eased away from the heels of WHISKEY NEAT which shifted in a short distance later.
From wide barriers, HERCULES and HAPPY GATHERING were shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Near the 1150 Metres, CALL ME LU was inconvenienced when crowded for room between TORONADO PHANTOM and BINGO BINGO which got its head on the side and lay out.
After the 900 Metres, HERCULES got its head on the side and lay in away from the heels of HAPPY GATHERING, resulting in HERCULES being very awkwardly placed close to the heels of CALL ME LU. Then passing the 850 Metres, HERCULES was bumped by HAPPY GATHERING which shifted in before being bumped by TORONADO PHANTOM.
Approaching the 800 Metres, MASTER AQUA was left racing wide and without cover.
After the 700 Metres, WHISKEY NEAT, which was travelling strongly, was awkwardly placed behind XPONENTIAL.
After the 500 Metres, MASTER AQUA got its head on the side and lay out.
At the entrance to the Straight, HAPPY GATHERING raced tight outside HERCULES which improved to the outside of CALL ME LU. Then near the 250 Metres, HERCULES and HAPPY GATHERING briefly raced tight.
Passing the 400 Metres, BINGO BINGO was awkwardly placed behind MY ECSTATIC. HAPPY GATHERING, which was following, was inconvenienced in consequence.
HERCULES had some difficulty obtaining clear running approaching and passing the 100 Metres.
After the race, it was reported that HERCULES had sustained a laceration to the right hind leg.
A veterinary inspection of MASTER AQUA immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
MY ECSTATIC, TORONADO PHANTOM and SHADOW RUNNER were sent for sampling.
<6/1/2022 Additional Veterinary Reports>MASTER AQUA, which performed poorly, was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said at that time there were no significant findings. MASTER AQUA was again examined by the Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer D A Hayes this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in its right front leg. Before being allowed to race again, MASTER AQUA will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
