Racing Incident Report

GALAXY WITNESS began only fairly.
EASON and BEAUTY FIT bumped at the start.
PACKING VICTORY shifted in on jumping and bumped THE IRISHMAN. After this, THE IRISHMAN was shifted across behind runners from a wide barrier.
THE GOLDEN SCENERY and TIANCHI MONSTER were also shifted across behind runners shortly after the start to a obtain a position closer to the rail.
Near the 1250 Metres, BEAUTY FIT was crowded for room between SHINING GEM and EASON which shifted in. Then approaching the 1000 Metres, BEAUTY FIT commenced to travel keenly and was momentarily awkwardly placed behind BELUGA. BEAUTY FIT then continued to travel very keenly and near the 950 Metres was checked away from the heels of BELUGA.
After the 800 Metres, TIANCHI MONSTER also travelled keenly and was awkwardly placed behind BEAUTY FIT which continued to race close to the heels of BELUGA.
After the 600 Metres, SILVER EXPRESS was steadied when crowded for room between PACKING VICTORY which shifted out marginally and EASON (A Badel) which shifted in. A Badel was reprimanded and told that he leaves comfortable racing room for his fellow riders in similar circumstances.
Rounding the Home Turn, THE GOLDEN SCENERY raced tight between TIANCHI MONSTER and THE IRISHMAN which shifted out.
SHINING GEM was held up for clear running from on entering the Straight until near the 300 Metres.
Passing the 250 Metres, YOU’REMYEVERYTHING was bumped by SILVER EXPRESS which shifted out away from BELUGA.
For the majority of the race, YOU’REMYEVERYTHING travelled wide and without cover.
After the race, Z Purton stated that ORIENTAL SMOKE’s failure to run on today was directly attributable to the horse having to travel very wide and mostly without cover throughout. He said he was not able to obtain a position closer than four horses away from the inside rail in the early stages. He added that passing the 700 Metres he attempted to ride ORIENTAL SMOKE forward to prevent GALAXY WITNESS from shifting out, however, that horse was travelling better than ORIENTAL SMOKE and this resulted in his mount being taken into a position five wide and without cover after the 700 Metres. He added that ORIENTAL SMOKE came under heavy pressure in the early part of the Straight and then did not finish the race off. A veterinary inspection of ORIENTAL SMOKE immediately following the race which included an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucus in the horse’s trachea.
When questioned, A Badel (EASON) stated that he was instructed to obtain a forward position and race either outside or behind SAUVESTRE which it was anticipated may lead today’s race. He said EASON began only fairly and despite being ridden along in the early stages was not able to show sufficient speed to obtain as forward a position as instructed. He said after the 1000 Metres EASON was left racing in a three wide position but had cover behind YOU’REMYEVERYTHING and he was comfortable to continue to occupy this position. He said however the race was run at a slow tempo approaching and passing the 900 Metres which resulted in EASON making the turn near the 900 Metres awkwardly when racing close to the heels of YOU’REMYEVERYTHING and shifting out away from the heels of that horse into a four wide position without cover. He added that as GALAXY WITNESS improved its position to be racing inside EASON, this resulted in EASON not being able to shift back in and having to race wide and without cover after the 800 Metres. He said as the race was continuing to be run at a slow tempo, he therefore allowed EASON to improve its position after the 700 Metres to race outside the lead but closer to the rail. He said whilst this resulted in EASON having to make a more sustained run than was preferable, he believed this was due to the slow tempo of the race and the consequential manner in which EASON was travelling in the middle stages.
A veterinary inspection of PACKING VICTORY immediately following the race which included an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucus in the its trachea and also found the horse to be a "roarer” which had previously been reported.
A veterinary inspection of SAUVESTRE immediately following the race revealed that the horse was displaying an irregular heart rhythm. Before being allowed to race again, SAUVESTRE will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
THE IRISHMAN and GALAXY WITNESS were sent for sampling.
