11 J019  THUNDER BLINK  06/07/2024   808  THUNDER BLINK (J019) when questioned regarding the performance of the horse, rider stated that from a favourable barrier the intention was to endeavour to hold a midfield position. He said his mount jumped only fairly and then was quickly crossed by runners to his outside which resulted in his mount settling back in the field. He added with the middle stages of the event being run outside of standard time, his mount did not travel well and for that reason he elected to allow his mount to follow a runner into the event from the 800M. He added his initial intention was to improve to the inside of that runner making the Home Turn but when another runner commenced to give ground in advance, he was obliged to shift to the outside of the aforementioned runner to obtain clear running. He further stated that when placed under pressure in the Home Straight his mount, which was having its only third race start in Hong Kong, lay out and did not respond to his riding which he attributed to the horse’s inexperience. Trainer confirmed the instructions were to endeavour to hold a more forward position and stated that with the horse stepping up to Class 3 grade in the event, its inexperience resulted in it not being able to race in a competitive manner. He added that the horse would now be given a let-up for the remainder of the season. Post-race vet inspection did not show any significant findings. Performance compared to its previous starts was considered to be disappointing. Has since performed to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and passed an official vet exam - Race 808.
12 J320  SUPER INFINITY  13/10/2024   94  SUPER INFINITY (J320) when questioned regarding his riding, rider stated that the instructions were to ride his mount conservatively in the early stages and anticipated taking up a position behind midfield. He said his mount was slow to begin and as a consequence settled further back than intended. When questioned regarding the tactics he adopted in the middle stages and as to whether there was an opportunity to improve to the inside of the 2nd placegetter sooner than he did, rider stated that his plan was to follow that runner during the event as he felt the horse had previously shown the ability to improve into the event on the Home Turn. He said after the 600M he remained racing behind that runner, anticipating that runner would improve into the event, however, when it did not do so, he then shifted to its inside near the 500M to commence to improve. He added after improving to the inside of that runner and commencing to make ground, he then shifted his mount out to obtain clear running after the 350M where it commenced to run on well. He further stated that after racing in restricted room approaching the 300M, his mount finished the race off well. Trainer confirmed the instructions were to ride the horse patiently, however, did not anticipate the horse settling at the rear of the field. Whilst the Stewards found the tactics adopted by rider were reasonable in the circumstances, they agreed with his assessment that he, in the circumstances, should have shifted to the inside of the 2nd placegetter sooner than what he did to allow the horse to commence to improve into the race - Race 094.
