He said as a result in the early stages he did not ride his mount along in an attempt to comply with the instructions. He said entering the Back Straight he had anticipated a runner would shift to the rail, but when that did not occur, his mount was obliged to race wide and without cover for the majority of the event. When questioned if there was an opportunity to allow his mount to stride forward to prevent a runner from shifting out near the 600M, rider stated that his focus has been on endeavouring to obtain cover and as a result he did not position his mount in a more forward position at that point which had allowed that runner to take his mount out. He agreed with the Stewards in retrospect he should have placed his mount in a more competitive position at that stage of the event to prevent that runner from shifting out. Trainer confirmed the instructions issued and in the circumstances expressed satisfaction with the manner in which rider had ridden the horse. From the 600M raced very wide and without cover - Race 162.
3 D090  COLONEL  03/11/2024   148  COLONEL (D090) after the event, rider stated that when placed under pressure in the Home Straight his mount lay in. He added that, in his opinion, his mount is better suited at Happy Valley and when being able to dictate the lead. Performance compared to its previous race starts was considered to be disappointing. Has since performed to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and passed an official vet exam - Race 148.

Post-race vet inspection did not show any significant findings. Finished tailed out and performance was considered unacceptable. Has since performed satisfactorily in a barrier trial and passed an official vet exam - Race 144.
