S1-1 Tancred Stakes

MONTEFILIA enjoys an excellent record at Rosehill and by the way she’s returned this campaign another G1 victory appears imminent. This time last year she defeated the almighty VERRY ELLEEGANT in the G1 Ranvet Stakes before bypassing this event to compete in the coveted G1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes. Her form currently reads similar to her very best and connections have wisely opted to run her over the 2400m, in an attempt to win G1 number five.

ARAPAHO bumped into Australian superstar ANAMOE on two occasions earlier this campaign before taking out the Listed Canberra Cup in style. He’s got a bit to find on ratings under the weight for age scale but is suited by a rise in trip. The Listed Canberra Cup form is generally inferior to that of today’s racing stage, but I’m expecting the form from this year is addition to stand up.

GOLD TRIP was terrific first up in the G2 Peter Young Stakes before an average performance in the G1 Ranvet Stakes at Rosehill in Sydney. Stayers of his calibre can often bounce under this type of scenario, therefore, last year’s G1 Caulfield Cup runner up and G1 Melbourne Cup winner is entitled to another chance. His overall record in the anticlockwise direction is an area of some concern, but he’s well in against most of the opposition at weight for age.

SIR LUCAN showed plenty of potential as a youngster growing up in the Northern hemisphere but didn’t perform as well as connections would’ve hoped in the G1 Melbourne Cup in 2021. A long lengthy spell followed for the son of CAMELOT and it now appears he’s fine and fully recovered from any issues. His first up win in the Listed Randwick City Stakes over 2,000m was a dominant front running display, and I won’t be surprised to see him perform well at this elite level.

EXPLOSIVE JACK as a 3YO became a household name after winning the Tasmanian, Australian and South Australian Derbies in succession. Unfortunately that form went missing as a 4YO and the horse was subsequently spelled. Fast forward to this current campaign and optimism is again floating in the air following his latest fast finishing second in the 2,000m Listed Canberra Cup. The lack of pace looks against him here but he’s definitely ready to win.

SELECTIONS: 14. MONTEFILIA, 5. ARAPAHO, 1. GOLD TRIP, 8. SIR LUCAN & 6. EXPLOSIVE JACK
