Rosehill Racecourse – Track Analysis (Tancred Stakes):

Rosehill Racecourse is one of Sydney’s premier racecourses and is in the western part of the city. Rosehill hosts major events like the Golden Slipper in the autumn, the world’s richest 2YO race, and the Golden Eagle in the spring, a lucrative race for the 4YOs. It’s also one of the main training centres in Sydney and is where Australia’s leading trainer Chris Waller has his primary base. Like Sha Tin and Happy Valley, Rosehill is a right-handed track with a circumference of 2048m and a home straight that is 408m in length.

The Tancred Stakes is Australia’s best 2400m contest held under weight for age conditions and has been won in the past by outstanding horses like BONECRUSHER, OCTAGONAL, MIGHT AND POWER and MAKYBE DIVA.

The race starts from the top of the Rosehill straight where the field has a run of approximately 400m before they turn out of the straight. From there, they’ll race for close to 500m before entering the long back section of the course. They’ll run along the back for 600m which will then take them to the sweeping bend along the side at the 800m mark, where the race will begin to hot up before they turn for home and enter the 400m home straight.

The last time the Tancred Stakes was run at its regular home of Rosehill was in 2021, when it was won by classy import SIR DRAGONET, who settled off the pace to score. SHE’S IDEEL settled in the second half of the field and got home well to finish second, while MIAMI BOUND came from towards the rear of the field to grab third. Last year’s running of the race took place at Newcastle after the scheduled meeting at Rosehill was abandoned after only a few races due to heavy rainfall.

Only two winners of the race this century have come from horses drawn double figure barriers, therefore, horses that have drawn inside to middle gates, that don’t have to work too hard to find a position in running, are at an advantage.

For the weather forecast, there is a high chance of shower on the day of Tancred Stakes, it will be worth paying close attention to the earlier races at Rosehill on the day for the latest information in how the track is playing and what the weather is like.
