Figures suggested rapid progress last season culminating in a 1400m G1 victory at Newmarket. No chance to prove his 2023 credentials when unseating his rider after a bump as the gates opened.

Charyn

Always prominent but could never get to the front-running winner on his 2023 return at Newbury. A good effort but an unlikely winner here especially with stamina concerns.

Dubai Mile

Put up a brave performance – and proved himself beyond this trip – when winning a heavy ground 2000m G1 at Saint-Cloud last October. Slow ground and a blistering pace would help.

Flight Plan

Easily won a minor event on the all-weather on his second start. A good second in a Listed all-weather event on his 2023 return. Smart but his profile looks wrong for this turf Classic.

Galeron

Stable enjoying a good start to 2023 but Galeron, though making late progress to finish third at Newcastle, is unlikely to make an impact here.

Hi Royal

A winner over this trip last season, and made quite an encouraging start to 2023. But surely below the class required for this.

Holloway Boy

Achieved the rare feat of winning at Royal Ascot (1400m Listed) on his very first start – surging from last to first. Other solid efforts later but needs to have improved. Trip not a worry.

Indestructible

Has improved significantly since last year, judging by his G3 victory over this course and distance last month, keen early on but finishing strongly.

Little Big Bear

Big and strong, winning his last four 2022 starts, latterly with a dominant display from the front, finishing 7l clear over 1200m at The Curragh last August.  Pedigree offers hope for 1600m.

Noble Style

Unbeaten and brushed aside a step up in class to outspeed his rivals in a 1200m G2 at York.  Returning 260 days later with stamina being the concern for this very fast colt.

Royal Scotsman

Won two of his six two-year-old starts, including a fast-ground 1200m G2 at Goodwood. Following one flop he finished powerfully, only narrowly failing to land a 1400m Newmarket G1.

Sakheer

Advertised himself as a serious prospect for 2023 after decisive acceleration saw him win a 1200m Newbury G2 last September. His relaxed style of racing gives him chances of lasting this trip.

Silver Knott

Twice a G3 winner last season – including over this course and distance which is surely an advantage. Despite a slow start he got to within a nose of winning a G1 at Keeneland last November.
