Queen Elizabeth II Stakes S2 - 4, 21/10/2023, Saturday Post Time 22:05

1

Angel Bleu

A high class performer provided he runs on a slow surface, something he showed again when overcoming a troubled passage to win a 1600m G2 at Goodwood in August.

2

Checkandchallenge

Has not lived up to earlier expectations which included a G3 victory at Deauville last year and a solid fourth in this race. Mostly well beaten this season so very hard to recommend.

3

Facteur Cheval

Hasn’t won this year but has run some terrific races in top company including narrow defeats in G1s on his last three starts. Good chance of again running into the money, especially on slow ground.

4

Big Rock

Climbed the ladder fast earlier in the season including four straight wins, and then second to the subsequent Arc winner in the French Derby. A close second in two 1600m G1s since. Chance.

5

Chaldean

Upheld his impressive 2yo career when outspeeding his 13 rivals in a G1 Newmarket Classic in May. Very disappointing when last seen, at Deauville, then deliberately given a break to freshen him up.

6

Epictetus

Dropping back to this trip paid dividends when he won a G3 at Goodwood. A disappointing favourite back there next time and again struggled to make a big impact at Newmarket.

7

Hi Royal

Second – at 125-1 – in a G1 Classic at Newmarket in May and led for much of the trip when third at the equivalent G1 Irish Classic at The Curragh. Big defeats at Deauville on his last two starts need excusing.

8

Nashwa

This super tough and talented filly continues to deliver at the top level over this trip and further, last time fighting hard to the end when a close third at Leopardstown. Competing at Ascot for the first time.

9

Paddington

One of the stars of the European season, winning consecutive G1s at The Curragh, Royal Ascot, Sandown and Goodwood quickening stylishly each time. May have needed a break when defeated at York in August. Chance.

10

Rogue Millennium

Kept on strongly over this straight 1600m when winning a G2 at Royal Ascot, running at least as well when second in a Leopardstown G1 last month. But a modest effort followed at Longchamp.

11

Tahiyra

She is proving a brilliant filly over this trip with three consecutive G1 wins, latterly when returning from a 78-day break to record a fluent victory at Leopardstown. Seems to handle all ground.
