Racing Incident Report

GOLD SANDFIELD was slow to begin. On jumping, TRAVEL LEADER stumbled and as a consequence took time to muster speed. Shortly after the start, SILVER MARK was steadied and lost ground when crowded for room inside FRAMES DEPOT which at this time got its head on the side and shifted in abruptly. Near the 1500 Metres, QUALITY-QUALITY, which had its head on the side and was hanging in, was steadied away from the heels of CHARMING SPEEDY. After this, QUALITY-QUALITY was taken across behind runners. After the 1300 Metres, TRAVEL LEADER proved difficult to settle. Near the 1200 Metres, FORTUNE GOLD was steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of FRAMES DEPOT which shifted in when proving difficult to settle. After the 1000 Metres, SILVER MARK, which was proving difficult to settle, became unbalanced when being steadied away from the heels of SOLAR POWER. Approaching and passing the 200 Metres, QUALITY-QUALITY hung in. M Kinane (NICKU NICKU) said he was instructed to have the horse travelling where it was comfortable, however, he was to ensure he brought the horse to the outside to make its run in the Home Straight. He said NICKU NICKU settled in a rearward position and he continued to race away from the rail. He said to have improved his position on the inside of GOLD SANDFIELD after the 800 Metres would have made it difficult for him to ensure he could make his run on the outside in the Home Straight, he therefore elected to continue following GOLD SANDFIELD in the middle stages. He said on straightening he shifted to the outside of GOLD SANDFIELD which was under pressure. He said at this time he reached up with his left hand to adjust his goggles which had become displaced. He said he then rode his mount out and whilst it initially responded well and over the concluding stages was continuing to make ground, he believed the horse's run had ended short of the line. M Kinane was told his explanation would be reported. GOLD SANDFIELD and NICKU NICKU were sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, GOLD SANDFIELD, which finished tailed out, was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was displaying an irregular heart beat. As this was the second occasion on which GOLD SANDFIELD had been reported to be displaying an irregular heart beat, the horse will now be compulsorily retired. A veterinary inspection of NICKY NICKU after the race did not show any significant findings. SILVER MARK, FUJIAN PRINCE and CHARMING SPEEDY were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported SOLAR POWER had lost its right hind plate and TRAVEL LEADER had lost its left front plate.
