Racing Incident Report
VENETIAN MASTER was withdrawn on 3.2.04 on veterinary grounds (skin disease) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter DON SEBASTIAN. Before being allowed to race again, VENETIAN MASTER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Shortly after the start, PRODIGY was crowded for room between DON SEBASTIAN and THISTLEJADE which shifted in after being brushed by WAIALAE WIN. Shortly after straightening, THISTLEJADE was bumped and carried wider by SUPER COMBED which shifted to the outside of DON SEBASTIAN to obtain clear running. Near the 200 Metres, DOLPHIN STAR was bumped by PRODIGY which shifted in after being brushed by ENORMOUS WAY. In the Straight when giving ground, WAIALAE WIN, which had raced wide and without cover for most of the race, hung in. Over the concluding stages, SUPER COMBED hung in. G Mossé (HIGH SKY) explained he went forward in the early stages and was racing to the outside of HAPPY CONTENDER, however, the horse would not settle. He said therefore in the Straight on the first occasion he stayed wider on the track and allowed HIGH SKY to stride forward gradually in the hope that it would settle for him which it did. He said nearing the winning post on the first occasion he was clear of HAPPY CONTENDER and gradually commenced to shift towards the rail, however, after passing the winning post the first time HAPPY CONTENDER had made ground on him which meant he was not clear of that runner to shift to the rail, therefore he raced one off the fence outside it. D Boeuf (DOLPHIN STAR) attributed the horse's poor performance to the rain affected track. He said last start DOLPHIN STAR responded nicely when asked for an effort, however, tonight at no stage of the race did DOLPHIN STAR stretch out as he thought it should on the track and this indicated to him that the horse did not appreciate the ground. DOLPHIN STAR was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. A veterinary examination of DOLPHIN STAR after the race did not show any significant findings. PRODIGY, which finished tailed out, was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, PRODIGY was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said there were no significant findings. Before being allowed to race again, PRODIGY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SUPER COMBED and HAPPY CONTENDER were sent for sampling.
