Racing Incident Report
GRAND MASTER was withdrawn on 29.4.04 on veterinary grounds (lame left fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter GOOD TO GREAT (C Williams). Before being permitted to race again, GRAND MASTER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. YELLOW DIAMOND began awkwardly, on landing stumbled, shifted in and bumped the hindquarters of VITAL FOUNTAIN. LIFELINE RAPIDE was slow to begin. When the gates opened, TIGER RIDGE was a little slow to begin, near the 900 Metres was awkwardly placed close to the heels of COURAGEOUSHEART. Near the 400 Metres, MULTI MILLIONS initially shifted out, then when being straightened shifted in abruptly and caused crowding on its inside to MAJESTIC DANCER which at this time was beginning to give ground. Because of the manner in which MULTI MILLIONS shifted, A Marcus, its rider, stopped riding and straightened his mount. After the 400 Metres, GOOD TO GREAT was shifted to the inside of TIGER RIDGE to obtain clear running. For the major part of the race, COURAGEOUSHEART and LIFELINE RAPIDE hung out. Y T Cheng (DIAMITZ) was unable to offer any explanation for the poor performance. He said DIAMITZ was difficult to load and once in the barriers was very fractious, however, began well, was able to travel with the lead, but when he asked the filly to quicken near the 500 Metres, it failed to respond to his riding. DIAMITZ was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. After the race, DIAMITZ was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said at this time the horse was making an abnormal breathing noise and was distressed. He also said an endoscopic examination showed an inflammation of the horse's throat and a significant amount of blood in its trachea. Before being allowed to race again, DIAMITZ will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. G Schofield (DANNY BOY) said he was advised prior to the race the horse had proved itself to be difficult to settle in its work. He said because of this he had been instructed if possible to obtain a trail in the run. He said DANNY BOY was very fractious in the Parade Ring, required the assistance of a lead horse on the way to the barriers and continued to be unsettled while behind the barriers. He said after being boxed DANNY BOY was restless, shifting the nose band which it was wearing, necessitating that to be rectified prior to the start. He said when the gates opened DANNY BOY was slow to begin and consequently got much further back than he had hoped. He said he then allowed DANNY BOY to travel up behind runners although at the rear. He said at the 800 Metres he did not shift to the outside of STORMY RUNNER as in his opinion to do so at this stage when DANNY BOY had commenced to over-race would mean the horse would prove difficult to control and he felt it was better suited to remain behind LIFELINE RAPIDE. He said after the 400 Metres he commenced to ride DANNY BOY along, the horse immediately got its head on the side and shifted out and despite making ground in the run to the line he did not pull the whip as he felt if he did so the horse would have shifted abruptly, resulting in it losing ground. He said because DANNY BOY was finishing the race off strongly when being ridden hands and heels, he continued to ride the horse in that manner in the run to the line. G Schofield was told his riding on DANNY BOY had come under notice and he should do his utmost to ensure he rides in a manner which is not open to query. DANNY BOY and MAJESTIC DANCER were sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of DANNY BOY after the race did not show any significant findings. After the race, MAJESTIC DANCER was examined by the Veterinary Officer. It was reported the horse had sustained an abrasion to the left hock. MULTI MILLIONS and BULB KING were sent for sampling.
