Racing Incident Report

ALWAYS GIGGLE began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped SUNNY POWER which on jumping got its head up. As a consequence, both horses lost ground. When the gates opened, FORTE bounded in the air. Shortly after the start, FORTE was checked when awkwardly placed between PACKING WINNER and FLORAL FOKANZA which shifted out and was checked away from the heels of ALWAYS HAPPY which shifted in slightly after having made contact with NOT QUITE PERFECT. Near the 900 Metres, SUNNY POWER was steadied away from the heels of AFRICAN FOREST. At the 800 Metres, SIR OCTAVIUS was steadied away from the heels of TREASURE PLANET. At the 250 Metres, PACKING WINNER, which had been hanging out, was checked when crowded for room between DEMINER which was carried out by ALWAYS GIGGLE and ALWAYS HAPPY which was carried in by FORTE which at this time got its head on the side and hung. In the circumstances, no action was taken. In this incident, some inconvenience was also caused to DEMINER. Over the final 150 Metres, SURE JOY shifted in. Throughout the race, PACKING WINNER and FLORAL FOKANZA hung out. S Dye (ALWAYS GIGGLE) was fined $3,000 for improper use of the whip in that he raised weal marks on the horse's right hindquarter. When questioned regarding the poor performance of TOWERING FEELING, A Delpech said due to the wet weather, the horse's track work had been interrupted. He said the horse had missed grass gallops on both Monday and Thursday mornings leading into the race. He added after the race TOWERING FEELING was blowing heavily. TOWERING FEELING and TREASURE PLANET were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of TOWERING FEELING after the race did not show any significant findings. After the race, TREASURE PLANET, which tailed out, was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucopus in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, TREASURE PLANET will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. ALWAYS GIGGLE, SUNNY POWER and SURE JOY were sent for sampling.
