Racing Incident Report

COMPACT YARN was withdrawn on 2.6.12 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter COSMO ONE (M L Yeung). Before being allowed to race again, COMPACT YARN will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. After being loaded, SOLDIER became fractious and as the start was effected reared and lost a considerable amount of ground. Before being allowed to race again, SOLDIER will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial. Shortly after the start, TOP DRAGON was crowded for room between GOLDMEN Y Y which shifted out and COSMO ONE which shifted in after being bumped by IRON EAGLE. For some distance after the 1200 Metres, TOP DRAGON proved difficult to settle and was awkwardly placed close to the heels of COSMO ONE. Near the 200 Metres, PERFECT TEN was momentarily steadied away from the heels of COSMO ONE which shifted out under pressure. M L Yeung was advised to exercise care. Throughout the race, DEPOT BOY travelled wide and without cover. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of GLOBAL FAME, O Doleuze stated that his mount was not suited by the slow tempo of today’s race. He said after having to be shifted across behind runners from barrier 13, GLOBAL FAME did not settle in the race and near the 850 Metres got its head up and shifted out across the heels of GOOD THINKER. He said then near the 500 Metres when he was looking to improve his position, GLOBAL FAME became unbalanced when being checked away from the heels of GOOD THINKER which at this time was shifted out to improve its position. He said after this the pace of the race quickened, however, GLOBAL FAME was not able to sprint with the field and after being ridden out in the Straight did not finish off its race. He added after the race that he recommended to the connections that they consider dropping GLOBAL FAME back in distance in order to ensure a more genuine tempo which, in his opinion, would be of benefit to GLOBAL FAME. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of SHINING TREASURES, W C Marwing stated that it was decided to step the horse up in distance to 1600 Metres today as it did not travel well at its last start over 1400 Metres. He said it was felt that by racing SHINING TREASURES over 1600 Metres, the horse would travel better and consequently would be able to finish off its race. He said in today’s race SHINING TREASURES was able to obtain a position slightly behind midfield and travelled well throughout the race. He said however that when the tempo of the race quickened rounding the Home Turn, SHINING TREASURES was left flat-footed and in the Straight finished off the race only one-paced. He said, in his opinion, SHINING TREASURES may not have been suited today by the tempo of the race. A veterinary inspection of GLOBAL FAME and SHINING TREASURES after the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of GOOD THINKER after the race did not show any significant findings, however, an endoscopic examination was unable to be conducted on the horse. FELAROF, WINNING MASCOT and COSMO ONE were sent for sampling.
