Racing Incident Report
SUNNY BOY was withdrawn on 17.12.22 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right fore). Before being allowed to race again, SUNNY BOY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
KEEP YOU WARM began awkwardly.
JUMBO FORTUNE began only fairly and then was bumped by HANDSOME BO BO which was taken out by EQUALETTA BLITZ.
Approaching the 250 Metres, CLASSIC UNICORN and EQUALETTA BLITZ bumped.
When questioned, H Bowman stated that dropping back in distance to 1000 Metres today, TRILLION WIN had difficulty adapting to the tempo of today’s race in the early and middle stages. He said he shifted TRILLION WIN in after the 500 Metres to follow POWER KOEPP and it was not until that time that the horse commenced to travel more strongly. He said when POWER KOEPP shifted in a number of horses passing the 400 Metres, he was reluctant to immediately commence to ride his mount along to follow that horse as TRILLION WIN had only just commenced to travel comfortably and he felt that immediately placing TRILLION WIN under pressure would not provide it with the best opportunity to close the race off. He added that after the 400 Metres he elected to shift TRILLION WIN towards the outside rail to follow the eventual winner PING HAI GALAXY in. He said then close to the finishing line when attempting to improve to the outside of WHIZZ KID (Apprentice Y L Chung), TRILLION WIN had to be steadied when WHIZZ KID shifted out under pressure. Apprentice Chung was reprimanded and told to ensure that he makes every endeavour to prevent his mounts from shifting ground in similar circumstances.
After the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on HANDSOME BO BO at the request of Trainer C S Shum. The Veterinary Surgeon said this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse’s trachea. Before being allowed to race again, HANDSOME BO BO will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
WHIZZ KID, PING HAI GALAXY and POWER KOEPP were sent for sampling.
