Racing Incident Report
TUMBLER left the gates awkwardly, shifted in away from MEDIC HERO and bumped the hindquarters of MY FRIENDS SAY. On jumping, TRUE HERO sprawled and lost ground, then in the run to the first turn, TRUE HERO got its head up, shifted out away from the running rail and made contact with MY FRIENDS SAY. In the middle stages, SUNNY raced ungenerously, got its head up and hung out. In the early part of the Straight, MY FRIENDS SAY was awkwardly placed when close to the heels of SUNNY and tight inside KEWINS. About the 300 Metres, KEWINS, which was giving ground, was steadied when crowded between MY FRIENDS SAY and TUMBLER. When giving ground at about the 200 Metres, CLEMENT FORTUNE shifted in. Because of this, C Brown stopped riding and straightened and some crowding was caused to PEARL AND GOLD which was improving on its inside. In the run to the winning post, BRUIN SUPREME shifted ground. Close to the winning post, GOOD FRIENDS when struck with the whip in the left hand momentarily shifted in towards WISHES. E Saint-Martin (WISHES) said in the Straight the horse hung in, proved difficult for him to shift out into the clear. He went on to say he is of the view WISHES does race better when on the outside. Subsequent to the race, the official Judge, Mr K L Cheng, advised the Stewards that because of the position of the heads of WISHES and PEARL AND GOLD at the finish of the race, when placing the horses he was not able to base his decision exclusively on the horses' noses at the time they passed the winning post because the nose of WISHES was obscured in both the main shot and the mirror image. He and his staff however were convinced that the correct decision after consulting all the available photographic evidence was that a dead heat be declared. WISHES was sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing.
