Racing Incident Report

On the way to the saddling stall area, RUN AND WIN broke loose on two occasions. After being caught, the horse was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said in his opinion it was not suitable to race. Accordingly RUN AND WIN was withdrawn by order of the Stewards. After being boxed, GALLANT HORSE became fractious and broke through its starting stall, in doing so the gates were damaged. On being returned to the Start, GALLANT HORSE was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and after the necessary consultations he said the horse was suitable to race. To avoid an unreasonable delay, GALLANT HORSE was shifted out one stall. Before GALLANT HORSE can race again, it will be required to pass an official barrier trial. ISLAND WEST TREBLE, which had drawn alongside GALLANT HORSE, was injured when that horse broke through. The Veterinary Surgeon said in his opinion ISLAND WEST TREBLE was not suitable to race. Accordingly the horse was withdrawn by order of the Stewards. When GALLANT HORSE broke through, SEASONS TREASURE bounded forward and struck the front of the gates. The horse was released and examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. CARRY THE NEWS left the gates awkwardly and shifted in, causing some inconvenience to ALL THE BEST. About the 1200 Metres, CARRY THE NEWS was checked when tightened between ALL THE BEST which shifted out slightly and HUANGDI which shifted in away from LUCKY LAD. Just after this, LUCKY LAD shifted out away from HUANGDI, causing some inconvenience to THE DUKE, SUPER SPRINT and to a lesser extent COLOURFUL ERA. After being checked near the 1200 Metres, CARRY THE NEWS pulled very hard and raced with its head up. Near the 800 Metres, LUCKY LAD momentarily shifted out from behind GALLANT HORSE, causing some inconvenience to THE DUKE. Rounding the Home Turn, THE DUKE and SUPER SPRINT came together as THE DUKE endeavoured to shift out. Near the 300 Metres, Apprentice M W Leung (LUCKY LAD) dropped his whip. Near the winning post, SUPER SPRINT attempted to jump and became unbalanced. Whilst the Stewards considered the riding of M Cahill (SEASONS TREASURE) in the run to the winning post did not affect the horse's finishing position and accordingly a breach of Rule 100(2) did not occur, they did however consider it advisable to tell M Cahill he should ride all mounts out at least hands and heels to the end of the race whenever possible. COLOURFUL ERA was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. After the race, COLOURFUL ERA was examined. No significant findings were detected other than the problems reported by the Veterinary Officer when the horse went through its racing check. Before COLOURFUL ERA can race again, it will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. THE DUKE, FERRULE and LUCKY LAD were sent for sampling.
