Racing Incident Report

After leaving the Parade Ring, CLAWS OF THUNDER kicked out and made contact with a rail. After arriving at the Start, CLAWS OF THUNDER was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and after the necessary consultations it was decided the horse was suitable to race. CLAWS OF THUNDER jumped awkwardly, then shifted in and from a difficult gate was obliged to race wide without cover. When the gates opened, PERFECT SHADOW stood flat-footed and lost a lot of ground. SUPER WONGCHOY was slowly away. When questioned, W M Lai (SONG FOR SZESZE) said he had been instructed to take up a position either just behind the lead or in front. He said SONG FOR SZESZE jumped well, but was then immediately crowded between OCEAN ACROSS and TOUCH DOWN which on jumping shifted in abruptly, because of this he got further back than anticipated. He said he then rode along to try and find a position, settled down behind HIN YUEN'S UNICORN, but then particularly in the middle sages when HIN YUEN'S UNICORN was not able to hold a forward position, he was carried further back and with horses on his outside was not able to shift out and go forward, he therefore was well back on straightening. He did go on to say in the Straight he shifted out to find clear running, was able to put SONG FOR SZESZE under pressure and the horse did close off satisfactorily. Whilst the explanations submitted by W M Lai were accepted, he was told his riding had come under some notice. PERFECT SHADOW was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. PLENTY OF SURPRISE and STRAIGHT WIN were sent for sampling.
