Racing Incident Report

GOGGLES jumped awkwardly and threw its head up. CITIZEN KANE, which was standing with its head turned slightly to the left hand side, came from the gates awkwardly. As a consequence of this, F Coetzee was momentarily unbalanced in the saddle. On jumping, MERIDIAN STAR threw its head up. From a difficult gate, HAPPY MOMENTUM was obliged to race wide and at no stage found any cover. For some distance rounding the turn, SCORE was awkwardly placed just inside the heels of CHEERS HONG KONG, then about the 400 Metres was shifted out abruptly. For a short distance in the early part of the Home Straight, SUPER MOLLY was awkwardly placed close to the heels of MERIDIAN STAR. About the 300 Metres, THANK HEAVENS became unbalanced when crowded between HAPPY MOMENTUM and SMART WINNER (G Schofield) which shifted out to find clear running and go forward. It was decided to take no direct action, however, G Schofield was severely reprimanded and told he must exercise far more care when shifting ground. After the 200 Metres, SUPER MOLLY got its head up when close to the hindquarters of DR MORE. Just after this, SUPER MOLLY (Y T Cheng) shifted out to improve between MERIDIAN STAR and DR MORE where in the opinion of the Stewards there was barely sufficient room to do so. When improving, SUPER MOLLY bumped MERIDIAN STAR which in turn shifted ground and brushed RED PEPPER. Y T Cheng was told to always ensure he has sufficient racing room before improving. JEUNE KING PRAWN and SMART WINNER were sent for sampling. After the race, it was noted SMART WINNER had sustained a laceration to the inside of its right hind fetlock joint.
