Racing Incident Report

I DELIVER was withdrawn on 15.4.03 on veterinary grounds (sore left fore tendon) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter LEUNG'S FAVOURITE (S K Sit). Before being allowed to race again, I DELIVER will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. LEUNG'S FAVOURITE began very awkwardly and got its head up, causing S K Sit, its rider, to become unbalanced. As a consequence, LEUNG'S FAVOURITE lost a significant amount of ground. LEUNG'S FAVOURITE then made the first turn awkwardly and got its head up. MAMOUSKA was slow to begin. SINCERE AND FAITH began awkwardly and shifted out abruptly, causing B Prebble, its rider, to become unbalanced. GOOD WIN began awkwardly. On jumping, LUCKY TIME was crowded for room between ZINEDINE and NEVER HEADED which on jumping shifted out abruptly. For some distance approaching the winning post on the first occasion, LUCKY TIME raced tight between NEVER HEADED which got its head on the side and shifted out and inside ZINEDINE which got its head on the side and shifted in away from the heels of GANBATTE. In the early stages, PLEASANT SUCCESS, which was racing in a forward position, three wide and without cover, proved difficult to settle and because of this after the 1200 Metres was allowed to stride forward and crossed to the fence in the lead. Also in the early stages, AHEAD A HEAD proved difficult to settle and near the 1200 Metres got its head up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of GOOD WIN. Throughout the race, EAST OCEAN DRAGON was obliged to race wide and for the major part of the race without cover, then in the Straight did not finish the race off. EAST OCEAN DRAGON was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of EAST OCEAN DRAGON after the race did not show any significant findings. R Fradd (MAMOUSKA) was advised whilst the Stewards were satisfied the horse would not have finished in the placings, he should continue to ride his mount out at least hands and heels to the end of the race whenever possible. D Dunn (GOOD WIN) said he had not been riding the horse in its recent work, however, he had been told the work it had done was good and based on this was fancied by the stable tonight. He said GOOD WIN began well, he had to make a little use of the horse to lead from a wide gate, however, the horse relaxed in the run. He said when PLEASANT SUCCESS crossed in front of him after the 1200 Metres, he was not concerned as GOOD WIN continued to travel satisfactorily, however, at the 600 Metres he became aware GOOD WIN would not figure in the finish. He said in the Straight when initially put under pressure, GOOD WIN got its head up and failed to respond and over the concluding stages dropped out. He was unable to offer any explanation for the poor performance of the horse other than it appears to him GOOD WIN is a horse which appreciates being able to dictate terms in front to suit itself. GOOD WIN was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. A veterinary examination of GOOD WIN after the race did not reveal any significant findings. The performance of GOOD WIN, a last start winner, was considered unacceptable. Before being permitted to race again, GOOD WIN will be required to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. NEVER HEADED and CHARMING STRIDE were sent for sampling. After the race, it was noted LEUNG'S FAVOURITE had sustained a cut to its right fore cannon.
