Racing Incident Report

While parading, BULLISH LUCK became fractious, reared over and made contact with the rail in the Parade Ring. This caused the rail to be dislodged. Acting on veterinary advice that BULLISH LUCK was not suitable to race, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of the horse. MAGIC HANDS was slow to begin. Shortly after the start, ALWAYS WIN was steadied when crowded for room between GREAT DELIGHT and HAPPY MOMENTUM which got its head on the side and shifted in. From the outside barrier, CHIU CHOW BROTHER raced wide and without cover throughout. Over the concluding stages, PERFECT MISSION hung in. The Stewards deferred the declaration of weighed-in while they considered if BEST LUCK had had an unfair start. The official videos of the start were viewed. W Woods, the rider of BEST LUCK, was interviewed together with Mr S Woods, the trainer of the horse. It was established that prior to the gates opening BEST LUCK put its head down, causing W Woods to be pulled forward out of the saddle and take hold of the barrier with his right hand. Then as the gates opened, BEST LUCK was not able to jump and W Woods was dislodged over the horse's head. The Stewards considered that BEST LUCK had had an unfair start and accordingly deemed the horse to be a non-runner [Rule 12(19)]. Before being permitted to race again, BEST LUCK will have to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. FLORAL DYNAMITE, GREAT DELIGHT and HELENE MOMENTUM were sent for sampling.
