Racing Incident Report

After being boxed, XLERATE became fractious and broke through. XLERATE was quickly restrained and returned to the Start where it was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. When XLERATE broke through, JAZZ BEAT became fractious, resulting in its saddle shifting. The horse was removed from the stalls and re-saddled prior to the start. On jumping, NILOMETER, which had been intended to be ridden in a rearward position from the outside barrier, was immediately steadied and shifted across behind runners close to the rail but at the rear. Shortly after the start, MOMENTUM was steadied when crowded for room between SUNNY RIVIERA and JAZZ BEAT which shifted in slightly when racing tight inside XLERATE. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, JAZZ BEAT got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of XLERATE. Making the first turn, SUNNY RIVIERA got its head up and shifted out when close to the heels of FLYING BISHOP. Near the winning post, JAZZ BEAT was shifted out away from the heels of BEETHOVEN. Y T Cheng (KA KA WIN) explained after entering the Back Straight for him to have crossed CELEBRATION and shift to race two wide outside BEETHOVEN would have required him to make use of his horse. He said he felt at the same time the rider of CELEBRATION would not allow him to cross, therefore he remained racing three wide without cover. W Smith (DAVE'S BEST) explained he had been instructed to ride the horse in 2nd or 3rd position because of the anticipated lack of speed in the race. He said DAVE'S BEST did not begin well, shortly after the start MAGIC HANDS crossed him and DAVE'S BEST appeared reluctant to pick up the bit and got much further back than was anticipated. He said entering the Back Straight he elected to shift to the outside of PACKING ANGEL in the hope that DAVE'S BEST would pick up when racing without cover. He said DAVE'S BEST travelled only fairly underneath him and in the Straight finished the race off in his opinion somewhat one-paced. BEETHOVEN and FLYING BISHOP were sent for sampling.
