Racing Incident Report

BRILLIANT ATTORNEY and SHOGUN were slow to begin. THE GRAND ROOF began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped LUCKY MASTER which was carried out by SWISS LAD which on jumping shifted out abruptly. From the outside gate, SOLINUS was immediately steadied and shifted across behind runners to a position closer to the rail but at the rear. Near the 1000 Metres, SWISS LAD was shifted out away from the heels of WHATA FEELING and shortly after this got its head on the side, shifted in and was steadied away from the heels of WHATA FEELING when racing tight inside TOWN OF FIONN. Making the turn at the 1000 Metres, TOWN OF FIONN, which was proving difficult to settle, got its head up on a number of occasions. Near the 600 Metres, GOLDEN STRIDE and WHATA FEELING were steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of TOWN OF FIONN (S K Sit) which shifted in when not properly clear. S K Sit was severely reprimanded and told a repetition might lead to further action being taken. Making the turn after the 600 Metres, AHEAD A HEAD got its head up and hung out. This caused inconvenience to TOWN OF FIONN and SWISS LAD which were carried wider. When AHEAD A HEAD shifted back in, GOLDEN STRIDE, which was following, was steadied to avoid its heels. At the 500 Metres, SWISS LAD shifted in and bumped WHATA FEELING. Making the Home Turn, AHEAD A HEAD hung out. On straightening, TOWN OF FIONN was hit over the nose by the whip of S Dye (AHEAD A HEAD). As a result of this, TOWN OF FIONN shifted out and caused some inconvenience to SWISS LAD. Apprentice M W Leung (GOLDEN PROMISE) said he had been instructed to ride the horse in 2nd or 3rd position. He said he was satisfied with the action of GOLDEN PROMISE during its preliminary, however, when the gates opened the horse appeared to be reluctant to stride out and seemed unbalanced in its action. He said GOLDEN PROMISE did not seem to improve as the race progressed in the early stages and therefore he eased the horse down. GOLDEN PROMISE was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, GOLDEN PROMISE was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said it was lame in the right front leg. Before being allowed to race again, GOLDEN PROMISE will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SWISS LAD, TOWN OF FIONN and AHEAD A HEAD were sent for sampling.
