Racing Incident Report

SOUNDS BETTER was slow to begin, then was steadied to avoid SPEEDY EXPRESS which on jumping shifted out. FREEBIRD began awkwardly and bumped the inside gate of its stall. On jumping, SHARE THE FUN was bumped by AMAZING which shifted out. After the 1000 Metres, AMAZING and SHARE THE FUN were crowded for room between TRUST ME and JOYFUL MASTER which got its head on the side and shifted in away from WISHMASTER. H K Yim (WISHMASTER) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 900 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of JOYFUL MASTER, causing that horse to be carried in which in turn caused crowding on its inside to SHARE THE FUN and AMAZING, resulting in SHARE THE FUN losing its rightful running. In the circumstances of this case, the Stewards believed the appropriate penalty was for H K Yim's licence to ride in races be suspended for a period to expire on Monday 22 March 2004 (5 Hong Kong racedays) on which day he may resume race riding. The Stewards did not accede to a request from H K Yim that the suspension commence with immediate effect and therefore the commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Happy Valley meeting next Wednesday 3 March 2004. Making the turn after the 700 Metres, UPBEAT, which was racing wide and without cover, hung out. Also making the turns, FREEBIRD hung out. At the 600 Metres, SOUNDS BETTER, which was hanging out, was steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of AMAZING. After the 200 Metres, UPBEAT was brushed and carried wider by SOUNDS BETTER which shifted out. After the 100 Metres, TANAHMERAH (D Dunn) turned its head to the right hand side and attempted to savage AMAZING. As D Dunn attempted to rectify TANAHMERAH, he dropped his right rein. Mr D Hill, trainer of TANAHMERAH, was told as this is the second occasion on which the horse has attempted to savage, before being permitted to race again, TANAHMERAH will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial. G Mossé (SHARE THE FUN) explained the horse was a little slow to begin, then after being interfered with near the 900 Metres the horse appeared reluctant to stride out and in the Straight failed to finish the race off. The performance of SHARE THE FUN was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, SHARE THE FUN will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SHARE THE FUN was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. A veterinary examination of SHARE THE FUN after the race did not show any significant findings. BORN DRAGON and MAJOR BEE were sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, BORN DRAGON was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was lame in the left front leg. Also after the race, MAJOR BEE was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was lame in the left hind leg. Before being allowed to race again, BORN DRAGON and MAJOR BEE will both be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SPEEDY EXPRESS and AMAZING were sent for sampling.
