Racing Incident Report

ALWAYS WIN and MILITARY OPTION began awkwardly. On jumping, KA KA WIN shifted out and brushed the hindquarters of HEALTHY WEALTHY. After passing the winning post on the first occasion, ALWAYS WIN was steadied away from the heels of SILENT PARTNER. Near the 1500 Metres, SILENT PARTNER was crowded for room between NASA PEARL and PACKING ANGEL which was momentarily carried in by DASHING CHAMPION. At the 1000 Metres, ALWAYS WIN was crowded for room inside HEALTHY WEALTHY which shifted in. For some distance approaching and passing the 600 Metres, NASA PEARL was steadied away from the heels of PACKING ANGEL (D Whyte) which shifted in slightly when not properly clear. D Whyte was told in similar circumstances he would be expected to ensure he left comfortable racing room for runners on his inside. W Woods (HEALTHY WEALTHY) said at its previous starts the horse had drawn more favourably, began well and was able to travel comfortably behind the pace. He said tonight from a barrier towards the outside he had hoped to ride HEALTHY WEALTHY in front of midfield but with cover as he anticipated the speed of the race would be such that the field would spread out. He said HEALTHY WEALTHY began fairly, he allowed FORTUNE SMILES and DASHING CHAMPION to go forward as he always anticipated they would lead. He said near the 1600 Metres it became apparent to him that the race was not going to be run at the tempo he had anticipated, and as the runners which were racing to his inside were bunched, he felt it was in the best interest of HEALTHY WEALTHY to go along in the hope of being able to obtain cover rather than racing in a forward position and without cover. He said because of this he raced with the rear but four wide and was still unable to obtain cover, he therefore allowed HEALTHY WEALTHY to travel forward and near the 1000 Metres was able to shift in to follow EVER SUCCESS in a three wide position but with cover. He said he shifted out near the 500 Metres and commenced to ride HEALTHY WEALTHY along as he was concerned horses near the lead had enjoyed an easy run. He said HEALTHY WEALTHY continued to close the race off in the run to the line tonight, but in his opinion this was because he was able to ensure the horse was settled whereas if he had ridden along in the early stages and it raced wide and without cover, in his opinion the horse would have over-raced and consequently not closed the race off. W Woods was told his explanation would be recorded. HEALTHY WEALTHY was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. After the race, HEALTHY WEALTHY was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said there were no significant findings. D Whyte (PACKING ANGEL) said he had hoped to ride the horse with cover behind the speed. He said approaching the winning post on the first occasion NASA PEARL was ridden forward to hold its position to his inside and consequently he was obliged to race three wide and without cover. He said approaching the 600 Metres he was able to shift in to be two wide and follow DASHING CHAMPION, however, shortly afterwards PACKING ANGEL was under pressure to hold its position. He said near the 400 Metres PACKING ANGEL became unbalanced in its action and did not appear to be striding out as it should and immediately started to give ground. He said after straightening he became concerned something might have been amiss with PACKING ANGEL, therefore he did not ride the horse out. PACKING ANGEL was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of PACKING ANGEL after the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of PACKING ANGEL was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, PACKING ANGEL will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SURVEYOR and CELEBRATION were sent for sampling.
