Racing Incident Report

After arriving at the Start, it was noted SPEED OF LIGHT had blood present in its mouth. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said he noted a small cut to the tip of the tongue of SPEED OF LIGHT and in his opinion the horse was suitable to race. SURE FORTUNE and ALAKAZAM were slow to begin. SALUZI and KASHMAC began awkwardly. PREMIER CRU was slow to begin and was then steadied away from the heels of CHEERFUL BOY. Near the 1700 Metres, SPEED OF LIGHT was steadied when crowded for room inside EASY GAME which at this time got its head on the side and shifted in. Near the 1300 Metres, SURE FORTUNE was steadied away from the heels of SNIPER which itself was awkwardly placed close to the heels of EASY GAME. In the early and middle stages, RED BARON proved difficult to settle. Making the turn near the 800 Metres, LUCKY SUPERSTAR was bumped on several occasions when racing tight between SPEED OF LIGHT and DASH FOR VICTORIES. Near the 500 Metres, ALAKAZAM (O Doleuze) was carried out by RED BARON which was shifting towards the outside of CHEERFUL BOY. In this incident, as O Doleuze was endeavouring to maintain his position, his right elbow became raised and shifted away from his body. O Doleuze was told whilst the Stewards appreciate competitive riding, in similar circumstances he would be expected to refrain from raising his elbow and shifting it away from his body. On straightening, EASY GAME was awkwardly placed close to the heels of CHEERFUL BOY and tight inside SPEED OF LIGHT. Near the 200 Metres, SURE FORTUNE, which was beginning to close the race off, was steadied and shifted to the outside of EASY GAME to continue going forward. After the 200 Metres, KASHMAC, which was closing the race off nicely, was steadied and shifted to the outside of ALAKAZAM to obtain clear running. Also after the 200 Metres, SPEED OF LIGHT was carried wider by DANEPRINT which at this time shifted out. RED BARON was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. After the race, RED BARON was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a significant amount of mucus in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, RED BARON will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SPEED OF LIGHT and SALUZI were sent for sampling.
