Racing Incident Report

When the gates opened, TOM'S FIRST stood flat-footed and lost a considerable amount of ground. On jumping, HAPPY PARTNERS blundered and almost fell. When the gates opened, GREEN CENTURY got its head up and shifted out abruptly despite the efforts of Y T Cheng, its rider, to straighten his mount. As a result of shifting out, severe crowding was caused on the outside of GREEN CENTURY, the main sufferers being LUCKY HANDS, DENDRANTHEMA LOVE and FIVE GRAINS which were all severely crowded for room and became unbalanced with FIVE GRAINS being checked. Severe crowding was also caused to DAVE'S BEST which as a result was checked and became unbalanced, resulting in D Whyte, its rider, becoming dislodged. DASH AHEAD, which had been slow to begin, was checked to avoid the crowding which occurred in front of it. Due to the manner in which GREEN CENTURY began, the horse will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial prior to racing again. At the 1300 Metres, AMAZING VICTORY was steadied away from the heels of DANEHILL WARRIOR which itself was being steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of CHINSOLA. GREEN CENTURY, which was following AMAZING VICTORY, proved difficult to settle and got its head up. After the 900 Metres, AMAZING VICTORY got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of DANEHILL WARRIOR. AMAZING VICTORY then shifted out and bumped FLYING BISHOP. At the 500 Metres, FIVE GRAINS was inconvenienced by the riderless DAVE'S BEST. At the 300 Metres, LUCKY HANDS, which was giving ground, was momentarily steadied away from the heels of FLYING BISHOP. Near the 200 Metres, when being shifted wider on the track, DANEHILL WARRIOR became unbalanced and dipped on two occasions. W Woods (CHINSOLA) said the horse, which is still an entire, in the opinion of the stable did not concentrate when being ridden in a rearward position over 1400 Metres at its last start. He said because of the manner in which CHINSOLA raced on that occasion, it was decided today racing over 1600 Metres the horse should be ridden along in the early stages in an endeavour to have it concentrate. He did point out in its races before coming to Hong Kong it performed well when travelling in a forward position. G Schofield (RED POWER) reported the horse was not striding out freely over the concluding stages. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said there were no significant findings. R Fradd (LUCKY HANDS) said at its last start the horse was somewhat disappointing when being ridden in a rearward position. He said because of this he had been asked to ride the horse more prominently today in the hope its form might turn around. He said after being crowded at the start, he then rode the horse along in the early stages in order to carry out his instructions. He said when he did this, LUCKY HANDS commenced to over-race and near the 1200 Metres he endeavoured to shift in to a position with cover behind INVERNESS, however, he was unable to do so because of the manner in which his mount was racing. He said LUCKY HANDS remained racing three wide without cover, then on straightening gave ground quickly. LUCKY HANDS was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, LUCKY HANDS was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a significant amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, LUCKY HANDS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. FLYING BISHOP and HAPPY PARTNERS were sent for sampling. After the race, it was noted FIVE GRAINS had sustained a laceration to the left front cannon.
