Racing Incident Report

After being boxed, DR WELL became fractious and had its left hind leg temporarily caught on the side panel in its stall. The horse was removed from the barrier, examined by the Veterinary Surgeon, trotted up and after the necessary consultations was considered suitable to race. FAT CHANCE was slow to begin. On jumping, BEAR DOMINANCE and KA KA WIN stumbled and lost ground. At the 1100 Metres, BEAR DOMINANCE was steadied away from the heels of MASTERY which was reluctant to hold its position on the inside of LUCKY HANDS which was proving difficult to settle. Making the turn at the 700 Metres, BEAR DOMINANCE was steadied when awkwardly placed between MASTERY and BOUNTIFUL which shifted in slightly. FORTUNE DANCER, which was following, was steadied in consequence. Making the turn at the 700 Metres, BOUNTIFUL hung in. Also making the turn at the 700 Metres, MASTERY lost ground when racing behind NOBLE BOSS which itself was giving ground. At the 200 Metres, DR WELL was steadied after becoming unbalanced when momentarily crowded for room between FANTASTIC WIN which shifted out slightly and BOUNTIFUL which got its head on the side and shifted in away from LUCKY HANDS which itself shifted in. No action was taken. After this incident, BOUNTIFUL was itself steadied and shifted to the outside of LUCKY HANDS. The performance of NOBLE BOSS, which tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, NOBLE BOSS will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. D Whyte (DR WELL) said after being fractious in the gates the horse did not appear comfortable throughout the run and in the Straight when giving ground he became somewhat concerned with the horse's action. DR WELL was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. A veterinary inspection of DR WELL after the race did not show any significant findings. MASTERY was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, MASTERY was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a significant amount of mucus in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, MASTERY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. ZERUBBABEL and LUCKY HANDS were sent for sampling.
