Racing Incident Report

SPARKY began awkwardly, got its head up and lost ground. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, DOUBLE DIP was steadied away from the heels of WONG'S SUCCESS which got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of GOODWOOD. Also making the turn at the 800 Metres, NILOMETER was checked severely when crowded for room between DOUBLE DIP which shifted out away from the heels of WONG'S SUCCESS and SUNBELL which shifted in after being checked when crowded for room between CROWNED GEM which shifted in slightly and WISE CHOICE which shifted out after being steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of AMAZING ONE. WIN AGAIN, which was following SUNBELL, was checked in consequence and CIRCUIT KINGDOM was hampered and shifted out to avoid the heels of WIN AGAIN. Although the incident was one of some significance, the Stewards believed there were a number of contributing circumstances and that no one rider could be held responsible, therefore no action was taken. In the middle stages, WONG'S SUCCESS proved difficult to settle. Near the 600 Metres, CROWNED GEM shifted in and bumped the hindquarters of AMAZING ONE which became unbalanced. Prior to straightening, WIN AGAIN was steadied and shifted to the outside of DASHING THUNDER. After the 200 Metres, WISE CHOICE was steadied when close to the heels of WONG'S SUCCESS. After this, WISE CHOICE had difficulty obtaining clear running. After the 100 Metres, GOODWOOD and AMAZING ONE came together on two occasions, primarily because of AMAZING ONE shifting in. D Holland (DOUBLE DIP) said the intention had been to lead with the horse, however, he was told if the horse did not begin well he should ride it where it was comfortable. He said when the gates opened DOUBLE DIP was slow to begin, he therefore elected to immediately drop it across to the rail, endeavour to improve his position gradually and ride it for luck. DASHING THUNDER was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of DASHING THUNDER after the race did not show any significant findings. WONG'S SUCCESS, GOODWOOD and AMAZING ONE were sent for sampling.
