Racing Incident Report

SUPER SPRINT was slow to begin. With the intention of being ridden back, TREASURE RAIDERS began awkwardly and got its head up. On jumping, ABLE EAGLE blundered. Also on jumping, THUNDER STORM was checked and UNIVERSAL KOMISSAR crowded for room between WYNDAM PLENTY which shifted out and LUCKY PACKET which after beginning awkwardly shifted in. Near the 1100 Metres, KING PALM was steadied away from the heels of TOP SCORER which itself was being steadied to avoid FRIENDS FOREVER which crossed to the rail. Near the 600 Metres, KING PALM was steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of UNIVERSAL KOMISSAR. Also near the 600 Metres, SUPER SPRINT became unbalanced after bumping ABLE EAGLE. On straightening, TOP SCORER endeavoured to shift to the outside of DARTER to obtain clear running, however, was unable to do so when held in by LUCKY PACKET. For a considerable distance after this, TOP SCORER was held up, unable to improve and continuously steadied away from the heels of DARTER which then commenced to give ground. Near the 300 Metres, TOP SCORER was then shifted to the inside of DARTER to obtain clear running. When TOP SCORER shifted in, some inconvenience was caused to HAPPY HEROES. Shortly after straightening, DARTER was bumped by FRIENDS FOREVER which endeavoured to shift to the outside of WYNDAM PLENTY to obtain clear running. FRIENDS FOREVER was unable to obtain a clear run at this time and shortly afterwards was steadied. For some distance after straightening, SUPER SPRINT was held up and unable to improve between LUCKY PACKET and ABLE EAGLE. E Saint-Martin (DON FELIPE) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 300 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of ABLE EAGLE which at this time was racing tight outside SUPER SPRINT which was endeavouring to obtain clear running towards the outside of LUCKY PACKET. As a consequence of the shift from DON FELIPE, ABLE EAGLE struck the heels of that horse, blundered and dislodged O Chavez, its rider. E Saint-Martin was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Thursday 14 April 2005 on which day he may resume race riding (3 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin racemeeting next Sunday 3 April 2005. In addition, E Saint-Martin was fined $60,000 in lieu of a suspension for a period incorporating two further racedays. When ABLE EAGLE blundered, it then shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of FLYING KENNY. SUPER SPRINT, HAPPY HEROES and THUNDER STORM were hampered as a consequence of the crowding to ABLE EAGLE. After the race, O Chavez was examined by the Club's doctor who said he was fit to fulfil his remaining riding engagements. Over about the final 100 Metres, KING PALM was steadied when unable to obtain clear running inside WYNDAM PLENTY which at this time was giving ground. TOP SCORER, DON FELIPE and FLYING KENNY were sent for sampling. After the race, it was noted KING PALM had a cut to the left hind cannon.
