Racing Incident Report

After leaving the Parade Ring, CHAMPION WINNER made contact with a rail. After arriving at the Start, CHAMPION WINNER was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. As the gates opened, ALL CHANCES bounded in the air and consequently lost ground. LUCKY TRIO shifted out at the start, resulting in MODERN INTEREST and CHAMPION WINNER which also blundered at the start being hampered. JOYFUL UNION began awkwardly. For a considerable distance passing the 800 Metres, KE JIA WANG raced tight to the outside of CASH BABY which hung out badly, resulting in KE JIA WANG having to be switched to the inside of the heels of CASH BABY near the 500 Metres. CASH BABY continued to hang out for the remainder of the race. For some distance after the 400 Metres, RARE COLLECTION was held up for clear running behind SUNRISE STRIKER. CHECK MATE hung out throughout the race and near the 200 Metres was checked off the heels of MODERN INTEREST and shifted to the inside of that horse to continue going forward. Near the 200 Metres, LUCKY TRIO shifted in and bumped WINNING CHAMP. Near the 150 Metres, B Prebble (CASH BABY) dropped his whip. Over the concluding stages, MODERN INTEREST hung out. When questioned, B Prebble said after the 900 Metres he changed the whip into his left hand and struck the horse in his opinion on the neck in an endeavour to prevent it from shifting further ground while hanging badly and causing interference to KE JIA WANG. B Prebble was told while the Stewards formed the opinion he had struck CASH BABY in the vicinity of the head, on this occasion given the horse's racing manners, no action would be taken, however, he was told in normal circumstances such use of the whip would not be tolerated. Mr D Oughton, trainer of CASH BABY, said following the race he had consulted with the owner of CASH BABY and had recommended the horse be retired. He said the owner wished to pursue racing CASH BABY. The Stewards advised Mr Oughton that before being permitted to race again, CASH BABY must perform in a series of successive official barrier trials to the satisfaction of the Stewards over the straight 1000 Metres at Sha Tin. Further Mr Oughton was advised that CASH BABY is not to be entered for races other than the straight 1000 Metres at Sha Tin without approval first being given by the Stewards. CASH BABY was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. After the race, CASH BABY was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucopus in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, CASH BABY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. CHAMPION WINNER, ADAIKALI and RARE COLLECTION were sent for sampling.
