Racing Incident Report

COME HO CHOI and ORIENTAL were slow to begin. With the intention of being ridden with cover from a wide gate, ELEGANT KING PRAWN was taken back in the early stages, however, was unable to obtain cover and near the 900 Metres when proving difficult to settle got its head up. At the 300 Metres, THE ONLY ONE was bumped by ELEGANT KING PRAWN which shifted in. In the Straight, LUCKY CORDELIA hung in and approaching the 200 Metres proved difficult to shift to the outside of CROWNED GEM into clear running. As a result of this at the 200 Metres, C Munce, the rider of LUCKY CORDELIA, changed the whip into his right hand. LUCKY CORDELIA continued to hang in in the run to the finish. Near the 100 Metres, HANDBAG PREMIER, which was giving ground, was checked when crowded for room between MY LANSON and THE ONLY ONE (S K Sit) which was hanging in and shifted ground. S K Sit was reprimanded and told to exercise greater care. Prior to the winning post, ELECTRONICS SPUR, which for some distance had not been able to obtain clear running between ELEGANT KING PRAWN and THE ONLY ONE, was checked when disappointed for running between those horses as a result of THE ONLY ONE being carried out slightly by MY LANSON. D Whyte (WINNING BULLET) explained shortly after straightening his mount had clear running, however, did not accelerate in the manner in which it did at its previous starts. He said because of this after the 400 Metres when THE ONLY ONE which was racing to his outside shifted in slightly, he became awkwardly placed close to the heels of HANDBAG PREMIER. He said he considered shifting to the inside of HANDBAG PREMIER, however, he realised he was not clear of other runners to do so and therefore he continued to steady away from the heels of HANDBAG PREMIER. He said in the run to the line WINNING BULLET did make some ground, however, did not close the race off as he had expected. B Prebble (SIAMERIC TE SPECSO) said the intention had been to begin well from the outside barrier, go forward and if possible cross to the fence. He said in the past SIAMERIC TE SPECSO had shown itself to be a very good beginner, however, today the horse landed against the outside of its stall when the gates opened and began only fairly. He said when this happened he realised he would not be able to cross other runners from his barrier, so he followed ELEGANT KING PRAWN in the hope of being able to obtain a position with cover. He said ELEGANT KING PRAWN continued to race on his inside and proved difficult to settle and he therefore elected to come back behind that runner into a position three wide with cover at the 800 Metres. He said SIAMERIC TE SPECSO travelled only fairly in the middle stages and in the Straight failed to respond to his riding. He said in his opinion the horse may not have handled today's track conditions as in the past it has run at either Happy Valley or on the All Weather surface, both of which provide horses with some cushion. He said the manner in which SIAMERIC TE SPECSO raced led him to believe the horse may have jarred up. SIAMERIC TE SPECSO was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of SIAMERIC TE SPECSO after the race did not show any significant findings. Before being allowed to race again, SIAMERIC TE SPECSO will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. WINNING BULLET, SOLAR EMPIRE and MY LANSON were sent for sampling.
