Racing Incident Report

ONE MORE ROUND was withdrawn on 8.11.05 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (right fore suspensory ligament injury) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter WONDERFUL BLESSING (G Schofield). Before being allowed to race again, ONE MORE ROUND will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. At declaration time, Apprentice P H Lo was declared as the rider of both LASER GLORY and DANSKE VERY MUCH. It was established Apprentice Lo had a firm commitment to ride LASER GLORY. As such, permission was given for A Delpech to be substituted as the rider of DANSKE VERY MUCH. Mr S Woods, trainer of DANSKE VERY MUCH, was fined $2,000 for this error. On jumping, WONDERFUL BLESSING blundered and lost ground. THAT'S IT was a little slow to begin. Shortly after the start, FUJIAN PRINCE and THAT'S IT were crowded for room inside STRIKE TO WIN which shifted in. After this, STRIKE TO WIN shifted out to relieve the pressure it was applying to runners on its inside, however, THAT'S IT got its head on the side and hung in away from STRIKE TO WIN, causing crowding on its inside to FUJIAN PRINCE which after the 1300 Metres was checked. In the circumstances, no action was taken. Near the 1300 Metres, CHECK MATE and QUEST FOR LOVE were steadied when crowded for room inside DANSKE VERY MUCH (A Delpech) which shifted in when not properly clear. A Delpech was reprimanded and told to exercise greater care. After this for some distance, DANSKE VERY MUCH proved difficult to settle and got its head up. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, WONDERFUL BLESSING got its head up and hung out, then making the Home Turn raced wide and without cover before giving ground in the Straight. In the middle stages, FUJIAN PRINCE hung out and after the 600 Metres was steadied away from the heels of THAT'S IT. After the 400 Metes, DANSKE VERY MUCH was shifted out abruptly into clear running. Near the 100 Metres, DANSKE VERY MUCH, ALL CHANCES and TRIUMPHANT GLORY were crowded for room between GOODWOOD which shifted in and TELECOM SUPERBOSS which got its head on the side and shifted out. Because of this crowding, DANSKE VERY MUCH and ALL CHANCES lost ground. In the circumstances, no action was taken. Over about the last 100 Metres, FUJIAN PRINCE was not able to obtain clear running when racing behind STRIKE TO WIN and THAT'S IT which were giving ground. As a consequence, FUJIAN PRINCE was not properly tested. Just prior to the winning post, DANSKE VERY MUCH was awkwardly placed inside the heels of GOODWOOD which was carried in slightly by CHECK MATE. Because of this, DANSKE VERY MUCH was not ridden out to the end of the race. D Whyte (ALL CHANCES), 5th placegetter, was reminded of his responsibilities to ride his mounts out at least hands and heels right to the end of the race where possible. When questioned regarding the improved performance of QUEST FOR LOVE, Mr D E Ferraris, trainer of the horse, said QUEST FOR LOVE had always shown him potential on the training tracks and in the barrier trials. He said he was impressed with the horse's first race start when after being slow to begin and ridden quietly it closed off strongly. He said on the strength of this performance and the horse's continued good track work it was well fancied in its second race start, however, the strong betting move on the horse was not stable inspired. He said on that occasion QUEST FOR LOVE was again slow to begin, however, A Delpech who rode the horse did niggle it along in the early stages, it again got well back but disappointed by failing to finish the race off. He said he was satisfied with the manner in which A Delpech had ridden the horse, however, the owner suggested for tonight's race the services of another senior jockey be sought in the hope of bringing about a change of luck and because of this B Prebble was engaged. He added he had not altered the work or routine of QUEST FOR LOVE after its last start. He said tonight QUEST FOR LOVE was able to finish the race off strongly again after he had instructed B Prebble to ensure he left the horse alone in the early stages and allowed it to travel where it was comfortable. He did say he was unable to account for QUEST FOR LOVE's performance in its race prior to tonight. Mr Ferraris was told it would be expected QUEST FOR LOVE would perform consistently in its upcoming starts. WONDERFUL BLESSING was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, WONDERFUL BLESSING was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was slightly lame in the left front leg. The performance of WONDERFUL BLESSING was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, WONDERFUL BLESSING will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. ALL CHANCES, QUEST FOR LOVE and CHECK MATE were sent for sampling.
