Racing Incident Report

While parading, it was noted FAIR WIN was lame in the right front leg. Acting on this advice from the Veterinary Officer, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of FAIR WIN. Before being allowed to race again, FAIR WIN will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. While parading behind the barriers, CONESTOGA became fractious and dislodged G Schofield, its rider. CONESTOGA broke free, was recaptured at the 1800 Metres and returned to the Start where it was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. When the gates opened, POCKET MONEY bounded in the air and lost ground. ALL'S WELL was slow to begin. GOOD BA BA began awkwardly and bumped the inside gate of its stall. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, POCKET MONEY was steadied away from the heels of ALL'S WELL. GOOD HEART, which was following POCKET MONEY, was hampered. On straightening, GOOD BA BA and ALL'S WELL bumped. Prior to the 400 Metres, ALL'S WELL was steadied and shifted out away from the heels of SUNRISE RAINBOW which at this time shifted out. W L Ho (SUNRISE RAINBOW) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that after the 400 Metres he failed to take sufficient measures to prevent his mount shifting out when not clear of GOOD BA BA which as a result lost its rightful running and was severely checked. OSCAR STAR, which was following, was steadied and shifted out away from GOOD BA BA. In the circumstances of this case, the Stewards believed the appropriate penalty was for W L Ho's licence to ride in races be suspended until Sunday 18 December 2005 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was with immediate effect. In addition, W L Ho was fined $15,000 in lieu of a suspension for a period incorporating one further raceday. At the 300 Metres, W L Ho dropped his whip. Over the concluding stages, POCKET MONEY was steadied when disappointed for running between THISTLE KING which shifted out slightly and ALL'S WELL which shifted in when racing tight inside SPARKLING STAR. No action was taken. When questioned about KINGSTON WINNER racing in a forward position, W M Lai, rider of the horse, said his instructions were to obtain a forward position if possible. He said these instructions were consistent with those issued to him when he had previously ridden the horse, however, in recent starts over shorter distances than 1400 Metres of today's race, KINGSTON WINNER travelled further back in the field. When questioned regarding his failure to hold his position in the early stages, R Fradd (AVOIDANCE OF DOUBT) said the horse raced greenly and because of this he elected to come back on his mount in an attempt to have it travel so as to finish the race off. He said even when ridden in this manner AVOIDANCE OF DOUBT disappointed by failing to close off in the Straight. THISTLE KING and ALL'S WELL were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported CONESTOGA had sustained abrasions to both hind pasterns.
