Racing Incident Report

DON RICARDO was slow to begin. In the early stages, TACTIC KING proved difficult to settle. At the 1000 Metres, BOLD WIN was momentarily steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of TACTIC KING. In the early part of the Straight, DON RICARDO got its head on the side and hung out, then near the 200 Metres was steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of TREASURE RAIDERS and over the concluding stages continued to hang out. In the run to the winning post, BOLD WIN shifted out abruptly. Throughout the race, PIONERO raced wide and without cover. O Doleuze (CIRCUIT KINGDOM) said tonight he had been instructed to ride the horse from a rearward position. He said when he had previously ridden CIRCUIT KINGDOM, the horse had performed well when being ridden quietly. The Stewards will speak to Mr A Lee, trainer of CIRCUIT KINGDOM, in relation to this matter. E Saint-Martin (GALLANT FALCON) said from the outside barrier he was instructed to ride the horse with cover. He said he allowed WINNING BULLET to go forward of him in the early stages and then hoped to follow that horse through the run, however, it became apparent to him that he would not be able to obtain the position with cover behind WINNING BULLET, he therefore elected to steady his mount and come back behind PIONERO which itself was being steadied. He said as a result of this GALLANT FALCON raced further back than was intended. He said in the Straight GALLANT FALCON closed the race off fairly, but did shift ground. C Soumillon (COURAGEOUSHEART) explained after straightening he shifted to the outside to ensure his mount had clear running. He said when he did this COURAGEOUSHEART commenced to hang out as it had done previously and shifted ground to finish racing on the outside fence. He said he was of the opinion he was clear of other runners to allow COURAGEOUSHEART to continue shifting, therefore at no stage did he stop riding and straighten his mount. C Soumillon was told in the circumstances of tonight's race he was fortunate that he had not caused greater interference to PIONERO and CIRCUIT KINGDOM which were both inconvenienced to a minor degree by his mount in the Straight and in similar circumstances he must ensure he was properly clear of other runners before allowing his mount to shift ground. When questioned, G Schofield (TREASURE RAIDERS), which he was riding for the first time, said he had been instructed that if the horse began well he should take up a forward position or alternatively if the horse did not begin cleanly which it has done in the past, he should allow it to travel back in the field. He said tonight prior to the gates opening TREASURE RAIDERS became fractious, threw its head around and consequently began awkwardly, resulting in him becoming unbalanced in the saddle, as a consequence of which to cause him shortly after the start come back on the horse's mouth. He said after this occurred he elected to ride TREASURE RAIDERS in a rearward position. He said approaching the 1400 Metres TREASURE RAIDERS got its head up on several occasions when proving difficult to settle, then making the turn at the 800 Metres he was awkwardly placed inside AQUA-TREASURE. He said after straightening he commenced to ride along hands and heels and TREASURE RAIDERS made ground, however, he was obliged to steady away from the heels of BEST POWER which shifted out slightly. He said he again commenced to ride TREASURE RAIDERS along hands and heels and near the 300 Metres steadied and shifted to the outside of TACTIC KING which at this time was giving ground. He said after the 200 Metres TREASURE RAIDERS did make some ground, however, its run finished short of the line. G Schofield was told his explanation would be reported and wherever circumstances permit horses should run in a consistent manner. BEST POWER and TREASURE RAIDERS were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of BEST POWER and TREASURE RAIDERS after the race did not show any significant findings. WINNING BULLET, COURAGEOUSHEART and BOLD WIN were sent for sampling.
