Racing Incident Report

After arriving at the Start, INDUSTRIAL MARVEL, which had kicked a rail after leaving the Parade Ring, was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said in his opinion the horse was suitable to race. HONEY MONEY began awkwardly and became unbalanced, causing F Coetzee, its rider, to become unbalanced. As a consequence, HONEY MONEY lost ground. FANTUZZI was slow to begin and was then bumped by MAVERICK STAR which shifted in. At the 250 Metres, C Munce (FANTUZZI) momentarily dropped his right rein. Over the concluding stages, WINNING BULLET was steadied when momentarily crowded for room between CALIFORNIA BISHOP and PACKING ANGEL which shifted in. When questioned, W C Marwing (SIR ERNESTO) said with the increase in distance to 1600 Metres, he had been instructed to have SIR ERNESTO begin well, roll forward and lead. He said he had been advised SIR ERNESTO had shown itself to be one-paced, therefore he should ensure the race was run at a good tempo, if possible give SIR ERNESTO a breather in the middle stages and then to open up a break over the field on the Home Turn. He said he rode SIR ERNESTO in accordance with those instructions and in his opinion the horse's performance was good, however, because of the outside barrier he was required to make use of the horse in the early stages to carry out these instructions. Apprentice C W Wong (INDUSTRIAL MARVEL) said after the 800 Metres he shifted away from the rail slightly to ensure if SIR ERNESTO commenced to give ground, he would be able to secure running on its outside. He said when he did this near the 700 Metres, CALIFORNIA BISHOP commenced to improve on his inside, he received a call from the rider of that horse near the 600 Metres and shifted his mount out to ensure he did not cause interference. He said soon after this INDUSTRIAL MARVEL came under pressure, commenced to give ground on straightening and shifted out further which caused inconvenience to THE BEST which was also giving ground at this time. HONEY MONEY, THE BEST and INDUSTRIAL MARVEL were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of HONEY MONEY, THE BEST and INDUSTRIAL MARVEL after the race did not show any significant findings. The performances of THE BEST and INDUSTRIAL MARVEL, which tailed out, were considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, THE BEST and INDUSTRIAL MARVEL will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. MAVERICK STAR and FIRST AMONG EQUALS were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported PACKING ANGEL had lost its left front plate.
