Racing Incident Report

CLASSIC HORSE began awkwardly and got its head up. At the 600 Metres, MULTIMIGHTY, which was racing tight inside HARRY HARRY, got its head on the side, was reluctant to hold its position and lost ground. At the 100 Metres, HARRY HARRY was steadied when disappointed for running between SUPER DANA and WONDERFUL BLESSING. Just prior to the winning post, PIONERO, which had been racing tight inside PACKING WINNER, was checked when crowded for room by that horse which shifted in away from WONDERFUL BLESSING which shifted in abruptly after being brushed by SUPER DANA. Although the check to PIONERO was one of significance, in the circumstances no action was taken. In this incident, PACKING WINNER was steadied and lost ground. When questioned, Apprentice H W Lai (PACKING WINNER) said he had been instructed to lead on the horse if possible. He said PACKING WINNER did not begin well and lost ground at the start, he then rode along to improve his position. He said near the 1200 Metres he was following the leaders, however, at that stage MULTIMIGHTY steadied to allow WONDERFUL BLESSING to cross to the lead, when this happened, PACKING WINNER prove very difficult for him to settle. He said because PACKING WINNER was close to the heels of MULTIMIGHTY near the 1000 Metres, he shifted out as he was not able to steady his mount. He said when he did this he caused some inconvenience to PIONERO, SUDDEN SPLENDOR and to a lesser degree SUPER DANA. He added following this PACKING WINNER continued to race greenly in the run, in the Straight hung in and because of this he was not able to ride the horse out as he normally would. D Whyte (CLASSIC HORSE) was unable to offer any explanation for the poor performance of the horse. He said CLASSIC HORSE travelled comfortably in the run and in the early part of the Straight responded to his riding, however, after the 200 Metres got its head on the side, shortened stride and gave ground quickly. CLASSIC HORSE and MULTIMIGHTY were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of CLASSIC HORSE and MULTIMIGHTY after the race did not show any significant findings. HARRY HARRY, ROCKET WIN and DANSOLDE were sent for sampling.
