Racing Incident Report
SACRED KINGDOM bounded in the air at the start and lost ground. ARISTOCRACY began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of ISLAND SPEED. On jumping, OBVIOUSLY was bumped by THUNDER VALLEY which shifted out. SUNNY CITY was slow to begin. Near the 900 Metres, MULTI-WIN SPIRIT was severely checked to avoid the heels of STEP TO WIN which was carried out by COUNTRY MAGIC which in turn was carried out by OBVIOUSLY which was also carried out by THUNDER VALLEY (R Fradd) which shifted ground while hanging. SUNNY CITY, which was following, was checked to avoid the heels of MULTI-WIN SPIRIT. In the circumstances, the Stewards accepted R Fradd had made an effort to prevent his mount shifting ground, however, he was reprimanded and told he should make an effort sooner than he did on this occasion. Near the 800 Metres, SACRED KINGDOM was steadied away from the heels of AMAZING WIN which shifted in and caused some inconvenience to WILD ACE. For a considerable distance approaching and passing the 800 Metres, OBVIOUSLY was awkwardly placed outside the heels of THUNDER VALLEY. At the 800 Metres, THUNDER VALLEY was bumped on the hindquarters by OBVIOUSLY which shifted out after being contacted by COUNTRY MAGIC. At the 500 Metres, MAINLAND MASTER was bumped by SACRED KINGDOM which itself was bumped by HONG KONG LAD which got its head on the side and shifted in. After the 200 Metres, MULTI-WIN SPIRIT was checked when crowded for room outside COUNTRY MAGIC which shifted out after being bumped on the hindquarters by SUNNY CITY which when closing the race off fairly was checked to avoid the heels of THUNDER VALLEY which when giving ground hung out. Also after the 200 Metres, HONG KONG LAD was steadied and shifted in away from the heels of SACRED KINGDOM which shifted out when barely clear. Near the 100 Metres, STEP TO WIN was checked when crowded for room outside OBVIOUSLY which was carried out by ISLAND SPEED which shifted ground when hanging. No action was taken. At the 50 Metres, ARISTOCRACY was steadied away from the heels of MAINLAND MASTER. R Fradd (THUNDER VALLEY) said his mount began well and almost immediately commenced to hang out away from runners on its inside. He said after being bumped on the hindquarters at the 800 Metres, THUNDER VALLEY then was reluctant to hold its position. He said THUNDER VALLEY continued to hang out and proved difficult to ride. He said THUNDER VALLEY is a horse which has proved very difficult in training. In the circumstances, the Stewards believed the performance of THUNDER VALLEY to be unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, THUNDER VALLEY will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. M Nunes (COUNTRY MAGIC) explained he believed the horse's poor performance was attributable to it not being comfortable racing tight between runners and being buffeted on several occasions at this stage of its career. THUNDER VALLEY was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. COUNTRY MAGIC was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of THUNDER VALLEY and COUNTRY MAGIC after the race did not show any significant findings. SACRED KINGDOM and AMAZING WIN were sent for sampling.
