Racing Incident Report

ROYAL PERICLES was withdrawn on 5.1.07 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (laceration to the head) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter GLOBAL WIN. Before being allowed to race again, ROYAL PERICLES will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. DISGUISE began awkwardly. JIANG JUN was slow to begin. On jumping, TRIUMPHANT UNICORN knuckled. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, SURVEY SURVEY was hampered by FULL OF JOY which hung out. Also making the turn at the 800 Metres, MASTER POWER was steadied away from the heels of GOLD STRIKER which shifted in. After the 600 Metres, FULL OF JOY lost ground when awkwardly placed inside the heels of SURVEY SURVEY. After the 400 Metres, TRIUMPHANT UNICORN was steadied away from the heels of SUNNY POWER which had been having difficulty obtaining clear running and at this time was shifted to the outside of GLOBAL WIN. SUNNY POWER continued to have difficulty obtaining clear running until near the 300 Metres when it was shifted to the outside of GOLD STRIKER. Also after the 400 Metres, WATCH WHAT HAPPENS was steadied when improving into a narrow run on the inside of GREAT ACHIEVEMENT. Near the 200 Metres, WATCH WHAT HAPPENS was again steadied when racing tight inside GREAT ACHIEVEMENT which at this time shifted in slightly away from the heels of GLOBAL WIN which was giving ground. Then approaching the winning post, WATCH WHAT HAPPENS improved close to the heels of JOLLY GOOD FORTUNE and because of this was not fully tested in the run to the line. For some distance approaching and passing the 300 Metres, JIANG JUN had difficulty obtaining clear running, then on several occasions after the 200 Metres was bumped by DISGUISE which was shifting in. Near the 50 Metres, DISGUISE was struck on the nose by the whip of B Prebble (SURVEY SURVEY). Approaching the winning post, SUNNY POWER was awkwardly placed between GOLD STRIKER and JIANG JUN. Because of this, SUNNY POWER was not ridden out to the end of the race as it normally would be. M Nunes (SIROCCO) said from a wide barrier it was anticipated the horse would race somewhere around midfield. He said SIROCCO began a little awkwardly, bumped the inside gate of its stall, he then allowed runners on his inside to go forward of him, however, because of the tempo of the race in the early stages SIROCCO raced a little further back than intended. When questioned about the poor performance of MASTER POWER, C Soumillon said the horse began well and because of the increase in distance of today's race he was able to travel in a more forward position than the horse previously had. He said MASTER POWER travelled comfortably for him, however, after straightening when placed under pressure failed to respond to his riding. SANZIRO, TRIUMPHANT UNICORN and MASTER POWER were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of SANZIRO, TRIUMPHANT UNICORN and MASTER POWER after the race did not show any significant findings. SUNNY POWER, SURVEY SURVEY and GOLD STRIKER were sent for sampling.
