Racing Incident Report

MARS was withdrawn on 23.1.07 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (sore and swollen left fore fetlock) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter DANRIVA (S K Sit). Before being allowed to race again, MARS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. CAPABILITY was slow to begin. CRUSADER OF GOLD was slow to begin and then shortly after the start was steadied away from the heels of QI'S PET which in turn was taken out by KINGSTON WINNER. Then in the early stages despite being ridden along, CRUSADER OF GOLD failed to muster any speed and consequently raced at the rear of the field. Passing the 1300 Metres, SPEED OF LIGHT was steadied when crowded for room inside KINGSTON WINNER (Apprentice C W Wong) which shifted in to obtain cover. Apprentice Wong was reprimanded and advised to exercise more care. Passing the 1200 Metres, SOUND OF SILENCE got its head up when being checked away from the heels of TABBRIS. Near the 700 Metres, SPEED OF LIGHT raced tight inside COME HO CHOI which shifted in when obtaining a tight run to the inside of SOUND OF SILENCE which shifted out momentarily. After this, SPEED OF LIGHT and COME HO CHOI raced tight inside SOUND OF SILENCE for some distance until near the 600 Metres when COME HO CHOI and SOUND OF SILENCE bumped. No action was taken. Rounding the Home Turn, COME HO CHOI was checked away from the heels of TABBRIS which commenced to give ground. DANRIVA, which was following, was checked in consequence and shifted out, taking CRUSADER OF GOLD wider. Approaching the 200 Metres, QI'S PET was momentarily crowded for room inside ALWAYS HAPPY which got its head on the side and shifted in. Passing the 200 Metres, DANRIVA was steadied when disappointed for running between KINGSTON WINNER and CRUSADER OF GOLD, both of which shifted ground. Near the 100 Metres, COME HO CHOI shifted out abruptly when being steadied away from the heels of NOBLE ZOOM into clear running. Passing the 50 Metres, the whip of D Whyte (CAPABILITY) came into contact with CRUSADER OF GOLD. Apprentice P H Lo (SPEED OF LIGHT), 2nd placegetter, was reminded of his obligation under the Rules to ride his mounts out right to the end of the race wherever possible. The performance of TABBRIS, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being permitted to race again, TABBRIS will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. KINGSTON WINNER was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of KINGSTON WINNER after the race did not show any significant findings. CAPABILITY, QI'S PET and SPEED OF LIGHT were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported COME HO CHOI had lost the left front plate.
