Racing Incident Report

JOY TRUMPS began awkwardly, then shortly afterwards lost further ground when bumped by GOLD DIGGER which itself lost ground when bumped by KING CREOLE which was carried out by SILLY BOY. MAGIC TOUCH began awkwardly and bumped with KING OF SHAVER. SPRING SMILES was slow to begin. Making the first turn, GOLD DIGGER was steadied away from the heels of MAGIC TOUCH when racing tight inside JOY TRUMPS. At the 500 Metres, MAGIC TOUCH got its head on the side and hung in. Throughout the race, SOUND OF SILENCE and SILLY BOY travelled wide and without cover. The performance of SOUND OF SILENCE, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, SOUND OF SILENCE will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. S Dye (SUPER BALL) explained prior to the race when discussing the manner in which the horse should be ridden with the connections, it was decided that the horse when ridden to go forward over the same distance from wide barriers in the past had been "weak" in the finish of its races. He said because of this today it was decided from a wide barrier in what was anticipated to be a quickly run race that he should allow SUPER BALL to begin, then travel where it was comfortable and if possible avoid being caught wide on the track. He said SUPER BALL began well, runners to his inside immediately went forward and he commenced to shift behind them into a position around midfield. He said making the first turn he rode SUPER BALL along, however, the horse did not respond to his riding and lost further ground. He said when the tempo of the race steadied in the middle stages, SUPER BALL travelled strongly and at the 600 Metres he felt the horse would figure in the finish of the race, however, SUPER BALL failed to finish the race off as anticipated. Mr C W Chang, trainer of SUPER BALL, confirmed it was felt the pace of the race would be such that from a wide barrier SUPER BALL if it went forward would be left racing wide. He said having in mind the horse's recent performances from wide barriers it was felt that given a chance to finish the race off, SUPER BALL might run out the 1650 Metres more strongly. He did say should SUPER BALL draw a more favourable barrier, the horse in suitable circumstances will be again ridden to go forward. KING OF SHAVER was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. KING CREOLE was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of KING OF SHAVER and KING CREOLE after the race did not show any significant findings. TATTENHALL DELIGHT and LAZY BUDDIES were sent for sampling.
