Racing Incident Report

As the start was effected, SPLENDID SAILS became fractious and lifted its right hind leg off the ground which momentarily became caught on a platform inside the barrier. As a consequence of this, SPLENDID SAILS began awkwardly and lost a considerable amount of ground. VALUE CHOICE was slow to begin. Despite being ridden along in the early stages, KING'S CHOICE failed to muster speed and then throughout the race travelled wide and without cover. After the 1000 Metres, ARISTOCRACY was checked away from the heels of MUTUAL GAIN due to ARISTOCRACY shifting out to relieve pressure to NAMJONG SKY which had originally drawn outside ARISTOCRACY and improved its position inside that horse at this time. In the circumstances, no action was taken. Making the turn at the 600 Metres, SUPER RED became unbalanced. Near the 250 Metres, SUPER SPECIAL was checked when crowded for room between NAMJONG SKY (B Prebble) which initially shifted in and PERFECT ATHLETE (Y T Cheng) which shifted out. In the circumstances, no action was taken, however, both B Prebble and Y T Cheng were advised to exercise greater care. D Beadman (REWARDING STAR) said the intention had been to ride the horse in a forward position. He said however REWARDING STAR was dropping back in distance from 1400 Metres and did not show the natural gate speed of runners drawn to his inside. He said because of this he elected to steady his mount which resulted in him travelling further back than anticipated. When questioned regarding the poor performance of PERFECT ATHLETE, Y T Cheng said in the early stages SUPER RED which had drawn to his outside showed superior speed and raced forward of him, however, was not clear to cross. He said when SUPER RED travelled in this position, PERFECT ATHLETE hung in away from that horse and was unbalanced. He said when SUPER RED went forward, cleared him and crossed to the fence approaching the turn at the 600 Metres, PERFECT ATHLETE continued to feel unbalanced and in his opinion this was the cause of the horse’s performance. C K Tong (SUPER RED) was not able to offer any explanation for the poor performance of that horse. He said he was instructed to lead if possible and whilst he did have to make some use of SUPER RED to do so, the horse travelled comfortably until about the 150 Metres. He said when SUPER RED commenced to give ground, it gave ground quickly. PERFECT ATHLETE was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. SUPER RED and SUPER SPECIAL were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of PERFECT ATHLETE and SUPER RED after the race did not show any significant findings. After the race, SUPER SPECIAL was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was lame in the right front leg. Before being allowed to race again, SUPER SPECIAL will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SURE HERO and REWARDING STAR were sent for sampling.
