Racing Incident Report

C Soumillon (FASTER FASTER) was fined $3,000 for failing to arrive on course by the prescribed time. On jumping, AMBITION was bumped by LUCKY MAN which was carried out by DIAGHILEV. After this despite being ridden along, AMBITION failed to muster speed. Shortly after the start, FASTER FASTER was steadied and lost its position when crowded for room between MUTUAL GAIN which shifted out and NAMJONG SKY which was carried in by MASTER YING. At the 800 Metres, UNIVERSAL PIONEER was left racing wide and without cover. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, MUTUAL GAIN, which was proving difficult to settle, was checked when crowded for room inside MASTER YING (E Saint-Martin) which got its head on the side and shifted in away from MAJIN BUU. PALIO KING, which was following, was checked in consequence. E Saint-Martin was severely reprimanded and told in similar circumstances he would be expected to make a greater effort to protect his fellow riders. Near the 700 Metres, DIAGHILEV, which was racing ungenerously, got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of MASTER YING. AMBITION, which was following, was checked to avoid the heels of DIAGHILEV. Making the Home Turn, MUTUAL GAIN was awkwardly placed behind MASTER YING and inside the heels of UNIVERSAL PIONEER. Shortly after straightening, NAMJONG SKY was bumped and carried wider by MUTUAL GAIN which at this time shifted to the outside of UNIVERSAL PIONEER into clear running. At the 350 Metres, MASTER YING was steadied when having difficulty obtaining clear running between UNIVERSAL PIONEER and MAJIN BUU which was giving ground. AMBITION, which was following, was checked when disappointed for running between MASTER YING which shifted out and PALIO KING which shifted in. From the 300 Metres until after the 200 Metres, DIAGHILEV was steadied and taken back through the field when held up and unable to improve between LUCKY MAN and MAJIN BUU which was continuing to give ground. Apprentice K L Chui, the rider of DIAGHILEV, explained when he was able to obtain clear running after the 200 Metres, DIAGHILEV then failed to finish the race off. For the major part of the race, SIMPLY THE BEST travelled wide and without cover. DIAGHILEV and MAJIN BUU were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of DIAGHILEV after the race did not show any significant findings. After the race, MAJIN BUU was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said MAJIN BUU was lame in the right front leg and an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, MAJIN BUU will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. PALIO KING, FASTER FASTER and NAMJONG SKY were sent for sampling.
