Racing Incident Report

CLASSA was slow to begin. From the outside barrier, HAPPY AMBASSADOR was taken across behind runners shortly after the start. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, HAPPY AMBASSADOR was steadied from the heels of SAPELLI (D Whyte) which, after having initially raced outside CHAMPION LAD, shifted in and became awkwardly placed on the heels of that horse which itself was shifting in. D Whyte was advised to exercise care when shifting ground in similar circumstances. Near the 1300 Metres, SAPELLI was steadied away from the heels of SPEEDY WARRIOR which shifted in momentarily. After this, SPEEDY WARRIOR was shifted out to relieve the tightening to SAPELLI. For some distance between the 1300 Metres and the 1200 Metres, SLEEP WELL got its head up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of CHAMPION LAD. Rounding the Home Turn, SAPELLI shifted out when awkwardly placed close to the heels of CLASSA and in doing so bumped the hindquarters of SLEEP WELL, resulting in both horses becoming unbalanced. Shortly after entering the Straight, FLYING IN was steadied and shifted to the inside of BULLISH WIN when disappointed for running between that horse and TRAVEL GUIDE. Near the 100 Metres, WHATABOB was momentarily awkwardly placed close to the heels of BULLISH WIN. When questioned, W C Marwing (FLYING SUPREME) stated that he had been instructed to attempt to lead on the horse, however, if FLYING SUPREME did not show sufficient speed, to obtain a forward position with cover. He said he rode FLYING SUPREME along in the early stages to lead as instructed, however, the horse did not muster speed to be able to lead, therefore passing the winning post on the first occasion he elected to attempt to shift in behind ROYAL PUMPKIN and obtain cover behind that horse. He added however that he was not able to shift in behind ROYAL PUMPKIN and for this reason FLYING SUPREME was left racing wide and without cover for the remainder of the race and in the Straight gave ground. A veterinary inspection of FLYING SUPREME after the race did not show any significant findings. SAPELLI, FLYING IN and ROYAL PUMPKIN were sent for sampling.
