Racing Incident Report

GREEN GLORY, Standby Declared Starter, was withdrawn on 25.1.10 by order of the Stewards (stable transfer). ROCKET AND GOLD and OLYMPICSHIP bumped at the start. Making the first turn near the 2000 Metres, ROCKET AND GOLD was steadied when racing tight inside SUPER SURPRISE which itself was awkwardly placed inside the heels of FANTASTIC DANCER. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, OLYMPICSHIP raced tight inside ENERGETIC BOY which shifted in marginally. When the pace slackened passing the 1200 Metres, SUPER SURPRISE was checked when awkwardly placed close to the heels of OLYMPICSHIP. Approaching the 1000 Metres, SUPER SURPRISE shifted out and bumped VICTORY MASCOT which became unbalanced. Near the 900 Metres, ENERGETIC BOY was taken out to a three wide position without cover by ZEPHYRUS which shifted out into a two wide position. Approaching the 150 Metres, GOLDEN BALL was held up for clear running and was shifted to the inside of SAMBUOYANT to improve. After this, GOLDEN BALL and BEST NOODLE raced tight inside SAMBUOYANT which shifted in slightly. Then over the concluding stages, J Lloyd, the rider of SAMBUOYANT, stopped riding and straightened his mount to relieve the tightening to GOLDEN BALL and BEST NOODLE. For this reason, SAMBUOYANT was not ridden out to the end of the race as it normally would be. When questioned, M W Leung stated that he was instructed from barrier 1 to ensure that BEST NOODLE remained racing on the fence as the horse was attempting 2200 Metres for the first time tonight and it was felt that it would be best to save ground wherever possible. He said after passing the winning post on the first occasion when he noticed that the pace of the race was slackening, he gave consideration to shifting out from behind ZEPHYRUS and following FANTASTIC GUY which was racing to the outside of the leader. He said however that, due to his instructions, he decided not to shift out at this time but rather allow ENERGETIC BOY to improve around his outside passing the 1200 Metres. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of OLYMPICSHIP, D Beadman stated that, in his opinion, the horse was not suited by the tempo of tonight’s race. He said OLYMPICSHIP, which is a big striding horse, was caught behind runners when the pace slackened in the middle stages and for this reason OLYMPICSHIP was not able to finish off the race as it did at its most recent start when successful. A veterinary inspection of SUPER SURPRISE and OLYMPICSHIP after the race did not show any significant findings. VICTORY MASCOT and FANTASTIC DANCER were sent for sampling. <28/1/2010 Additional Veterinary Report> OLYMPICSHIP, which performed poorly, was examined by the Head of Veterinary Regulation & International Liaison. He said at that time there were no significant findings. OLYMPICSHIP was again examined by the Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer K L Man this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in its right front leg. Before being allowed to race again, OLYMPICSHIP will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
