4 14 JOYFUL CHAMPION (G072) When questioned, K Teetan stated that from a wide barrier he was requested to take up a forward position with cover but also not to make use of his mount in the early stages. He said when positioned to the outside of COLOURFUL BARON in the early stages, when that runner was racing keenly, he was reluctant to make use of his mount to cross COLOURFUL BARON as he felt had he done so, that runner would have maintained its position to his inside, which would have resulted in JOYFUL CHAMPION not being ridden in accordance with his instructions. He added that as a result JOYFUL CHAMPION was obliged to race wide and without cover for the majority of the event.
5 13 STAR OF GLORY (E316) No report.
6 2 HORSE OF GOOD LUCK (H160) When questioned, K C Leung stated that his instructions were to hold a forward position preferably with cover. He said just prior to the start being effected, as the blindfold was being removed from HORSE OF GOOD LUCK, his mount lunged forward and made contact with the gates which resulted in HORSE OF GOOD LUCK commencing awkwardly. He added that having regard to his instructions he then elected to shift HORSE OF GOOD LUCK in behind the leading division to obtain cover. Trainer C H Yip confirmed the instructions issued.
7 9 ARTHUR'S KINGDOM (E194) Lay in in the Home Straight and proved difficult to ride out.
8 1 SPLENDID STAR (G026) After the race, H Bowman stated that his mount travelled satisfactorily in a midfield position but finished the race off in a one-paced manner. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
9 10 COPARTNER ERA (C534) No report.
10 7 LEATHER MASTER (H034) Between the 350 Metres and the 200 Metres was held up for clear running.
11 4 HAPPY HERO (G322) Jumped only fairly and from a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
12 8 FASTPASS (H040) Jumped awkwardly.
13 3 DRAGON PRIDE (D164) Jumped awkwardly and from a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Approaching the 250 Metres was held up for clear running between HORSE OF GOOD LUCK and ARTHUR’S KINGDOM and then near the 150 Metres was disappointed for clear running between GREEN LASER and ARTHUR’S KINGDOM. Then had some difficulty obtaining clear running for the remainder of the event when held up behind HORSE OF GOOD LUCK.
14 12 GREEN LASER (E409) Bumped shortly after the start. Passing the 1700 Metres was eased when being crossed by SMART BEAUTY. After the race, M L Yeung could offer no explanation for his mount’s performance other than it may not have been advantaged by him losing his whip when it was knocked from his grasp when it made contact with HORSE OF GOOD LUCK near the 300 Metres. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
