Racing Incident Report

TOPSPIN TOO jumped awkwardly with its head up and shifted out towards AQUA PRINCE. CARRY-ON DREAMBOAT missed the start. Consideration was given to two objections lodged by K S Yu (LUCK AND FORTUNE), 4th placegetter, against AIR FORCE ONE (R Fradd) being declared the winner and BON BON (J Egan) being declared 2nd. K S Yu alleged interference to his mount over about the last 100 Metres. Dealing firstly with the objection lodged against the 2nd placegetter, it was established that running to the line BON BON shifted out away from TAMBORA STAR, close to the winning post made contact with LUCK AND FORTUNE. In all the circumstances, the Stewards were of the opinion that any interference caused to LUCK AND FORTUNE by BON BON, bearing in mind the proximity of the crowding to the line and the manner in which the two horses had finished the race off, did not affect the result, therefore this objection was overruled. Dealing with the objection lodged against AIR FORCE ONE, the winner of the race, it was established that approaching the winning post AIR FORCE ONE momentarily shifted in, however, R Fradd immediately stopped riding and straightened and any interference caused by AIR FORCE ONE to LUCK AND FORTUNE in the opinion of the Stewards clearly did not have any effect on the result of the race. This objection was therefore overruled. S Dye (SPEED AT WILL) said he had been told by the Trainer the horse would be travelling in a prominent position. He said SPEED AT WILL missed the start slightly, it was his intention to follow TAMBORA STAR, but turning out of the Straight the first time SPEED AT WILL became unbalanced, bounded in the air several times and he considered that the horse may have even broken down and momentarily gave consideration to pulling SPEED AT WILL out of the race. He said however after reaching the Back Straight when the horse was on the extreme outside, it did seem in his opinion to be travelling very comfortably and he allowed it to continue on and along the back made ground although travelling wide. He said approaching the Home Turn he momentarily shifted in in an endeavour to save ground, SPEED AT WILL again was reluctant to stretch out, but then in the Straight when in the clear the horse did finish the race off fairly. The explanations submitted by S Dye today were accepted. Before being allowed to race again, SPEED AT WILL will be subject to an official veterinary examination. HERO'S WAY was sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing. Following the race, HERO'S WAY was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon. He said that the horse was coughing and an endoscopic examination revealed there were signs of blood and dirt in the horse's trachea. After the race, it was noted that AIR FORCE ONE had sustained a minor laceration to the area of its near side flank.
