Racing Incident Report

LAST RESORT, which was restless after being boxed and was then standing with its head turned partially to its near side, missed the start badly. FABERGER was slowly away. On jumping, ONE WON ONE shifted in abruptly. On leaving the gates, NATIVE DESERT was crowded by ADAM which shifted in abruptly. J Sheehan (ADAM) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding. The careless riding being that near the 1400 Metres he allowed his mount to shift in to race beside SUNLINE when not clear. As a consequence of this, unnecessary crowding was caused to BILLION WIN, CHARMING CITY and NEW TRUMPS. J Sheehan was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Thursday, 4 January 2001 on which day he may resume race riding. The commencement of the suspension is to take immediate effect. About the 1400 Metres, LAST RESORT, which had missed the start, when endeavouring to improve inside ONE WON ONE (J Murtagh) was checked when that horse momentarily shifted in away from ELECTRONIC UNICORN. After taking into account all the circumstances, it was decided not to take any direct action, but J Murtagh was told to exercise care at all times when shifting ground. Near the 600 Metres, K Desormeaux (NATIVE DESERT) turned the whip whilst it was in his left hand and jabbed NATURE DESERT in the neck with the butt of the whip on two occasions. He said this practice is permitted in his home jurisdiction and it is something with his race riding he does on occasions. It was decided not to take any direct action today, but K Desormeaux was told such use of the whip is not condoned in Hong Kong and he was directed to refrain from this practice whilst here. About the 300 Metres, TESTA ROSSA was steadied and shifted in abruptly to find running. In the Straight, BILLION WIN shifted out under pressure. As a consequence of this, W C Marwing changed the whip into his left hand at about the 200 Metres. Also in the Straight, NATIVE DESERT hung in badly. ELECTRONIC UNICORN was sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing.
