Racing Incident Report

In accordance with usual practice, after FALCON FLIGHT had arrived in Hong Kong, a urine sample was taken from the horse. This was presented, for analysis, to the Hong Kong Jockey Club Racing Laboratory on 8 December 2000. On 14 December 2000, Dr T S M Wan, the Club's Senior Racing Chemist, advised the sample contained Methylprednisolone. A further sample was taken from the horse and delivered to the Racing Laboratory on 15 December 2000. On 16 December 2000, Dr Wan advised this sample also contained Methylprednisolone. A further sample was collected from the horse on 16 December 2000 and on the afternoon of 16 December 2000, Dr Wan advised that this sample was also found to contain Methylprednisolone. A further sample was collected from FALCON FLIGHT early this morning, 17 December 2000, and presented to the Racing Laboratory at about 9 am. Dr Wan advised the Stewards at about 2 pm that this sample also contained Methylprednisolone. Dr K L Watkins, the Club's Senior Veterinary Surgeon, advised the Stewards that Methylprednisolone is a Prohibited Substance in accordance with the Rules of Racing of the Hong Kong Jockey Club. Mr B D A Cecil, Trainer of FALCON FLIGHT, Mr G A Tanaka, owner of the horse, and his Racing Manager, Mr A Smith, were advised of the analyst's finding and they were informed by the Stewards that in accordance with Rule 14(v)(b), the horse would be withdrawn. Accordingly, FALCON FLIGHT was withdrawn from the Hong Kong Cup at 2:34 pm. The Stewards will conduct further interviews with Mr Cecil and Mr Tanaka at the Happy Valley Inquiry Room tomorrow at 10:30 am. On jumping, OUZO shifted in abruptly and bumped JIM AND TONIC. About the 1500 Metres, KEEN WINNER became unbalanced when tight between OUZO and GREEK DANCE which was tending to pull and shifted in to a position directly behind JIM AND TONIC. Just on straightening, GREEK DANCE shifted out in an endeavour to go forward and bumped JIM AND TONIC. For some distance after this, GREEK DANCE and JIM AND TONIC raced tight. When ELLE DANZIG shifted in about the 300 Metres, GREEK DANCE was able to obtain clear running. For some distance near the 200 Metres, SAMUM was awkwardly placed between FORBIDDEN APPLE and the heels of ELLE DANZIG. When questioned, G Mossé (JIM AND TONIC) said today he had been directed by the Trainer to have the horse in a much more forward position than had been the practice in the past. Accordingly, he said he settled it into a position relatively close to the front. JIM AND TONIC was sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing.
