Racing Incident Report

Whilst parading before the race, ETERNAL FUN kicked out and made contact with a rail. After arriving at the Start, the horse was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and following the necessary consultations he said in his opinion it was suitable to race. QUICK NEWS jumped awkwardly, just after the start made contact with the hindquarters of MAJESTIC WARRIOR. On jumping, ETERNAL FUN and TELECOM PRINCE came together. Turning out of the Straight the first time, QUICK NEWS, which was pulling hard, became unbalanced when close to the heels of THE RICH MAN. Near the 1200 Metres, THE RICH MAN got its head on the side and shifted in away from TELECOM PRINCE. As a consequence of this, SIR GALWAY was crowded onto the running rail and checked. Because of the circumstances, no action was taken. About the 200 Metres, THE RICH MAN was checked when crowded between ETERNAL FUN which shifted in and LONGMARK which when giving ground shifted out away from PRECIOUS SWEETIE. The check to THE RICH MAN was one of some significance and obviously was at a crucial stage of the race, however, because of the circumstances involved, the Stewards believed it would be inappropriate to take any action. Approaching the winning post, MAJESTIC WARRIOR, which was closing off strongly, was shifted ground to avoid ETERNAL FUN. Near the winning post, TELECOM PRINCE and ABLE WIN came together due mainly to ABLE WIN shifting in. Because of ABLE WIN shifting in, D Whyte stopped riding and straightened and the horse was somewhat difficult to ride out right to the line. Y T Cheng (MAJESTIC WARRIOR) said at the horse's last start from a good gate, because of the manner in which the race was run, he was able to take up a forward position. He said tonight the instructions were similar, again from a good gate he was to leave the gates cleanly, endeavour to ride the horse somewhere about the 4th or 5th position. He went on to say MAJESTIC WARRIOR jumped well, but because of the speed in the race and despite his riding, he was unable to take up a position towards the front as instructed and got well back. PRECIOUS SWEETIE was sent for clinical veterinary examination and testing.
